Pokemon Strategy Guide (For Nintendo Game Boy)
| Description:
Whatever you think of the little blighters, you--or somebody you know--has gotta catch 'em all! If that somebody is a youngster (and let's face it, chances are that they're one of the many kids who've bought into this craze), they could do worse that check out this book. Presented as the story of Pokémon trainer Ash's adventures, this is a guide through the GameBoy game, letting the reader in on all the secrets of how best to bring up their fluffy (spiky, scaly, feathery or leafy) friends. While Ash is no Harry Potter, Pokemon: Pathways to Adventure serves its purpose as a game guide well. For a child who might be daunted by a traditional, techie guide, this is the best way of ensuring that they don't get too frustrated by the game. Just bear in mind that it is to the world of literature what The Pokémon Movie is to the world of art house cinema. --David Bailey

A reasonable guide for the youngsters, pathetic for over-9s

This is ultimately a good story to dig out if you are stuck with Pokémon. However it is not a complex guide, therefore you will not find strategy tips, trainer rosters (excepting a few occasions), Pokémon locations or any of the information in most Pokémon guides; merely a story, vaguely a walkthrough for the games. The book is not, in the end, suitable for readers over 9 years of age, as the childish language and not very helpful and limited information resources are not enough to satisfy anyone older than that age. As a Pokémon pro, I can safely say this is the least helpful, most limited and quite unbelievably useless and childish Pokémon guide I have ever come across. I am 12 years old and have completed all the games, and the guides I have used, besides this one, have been outstanding. This, at it's ridiculously high release price in high street stores, does not deserve one star. A thorough waste of time. |
