GameCube Broadband Adapter

| Description:
The GameCube Broadband adapter allows for high-speed connection through a DSL or cable modem and is purely designed for online gaming--it doesn't support regular Internet access or Web browsing. The adapter is easily installed, simply snapping into serial port 1 on the underside of the console. The Broadband adapter can also theoretically be used for linking two or more GameCube systems together, allowing for network gaming without the need for online access. To use the Broadband adapter you'll need a 10 megabit (10Base-T) or 100 megabit (100Base-TX) network cable, a broadband connection device such as a cable modem or DSL adapter with an available Ethernet port, and a valid account with a Broadband Internet Service Provider. Please be aware that some service providers, eg. AOL, do not allow outside software to access their services without the use of a special login tool. Please contact your service provider if you're not sure whether or not they allow this. Depending on your broadband service provider it's fairly easy to actually get online, but the various steps needed (such as registering the serial number of the adaptor with your provider and then waiting 24 hours for it to go through, in the case of our test) go completely un-hinted at by the adapter's manual. The adapter is only intended for use in the following countries: United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, Netherlands, Greece, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Belgium, Portugal and Luxembourg. Effortless to set up LAN games between multiple consoles with Mario Kart and 1080 Avalanche (never tried Kirby's Air Ride, not under consideration due to bad reviews). These are just about to ship to Europe (June 2004) in time for PSO 3. Should be cheaper than the resellers, but still suspiciously more expensive than importing if you're lucky enough to avoid the import charges. |

Play Mario Kart Double Dash Online!

These Broadband adaptors are essential to play the new Mario Kart Double Dash online via the warppipe site www.warppipe.com. Kirby Air Ride and 1080°: Avalanche are available to play online through warppipe too! People have been moaning about the lack of online support, indeed the Nintendo boys have been lagging behind so thank goodness for the Warp Pipe guys to finally get this great machine online. As you already know Nintendo makes some of the best multi-player games (remember the original Mario Kart on the SNES & Goldeneye on the N64!) Finally the Gamecube takes the leap into online gaming!
It is time to get yourself a broadband adapter (quite rare at the mo because Nintendo has withdrawn them from sale here in the UK) and fire a red shell up the crack of some of the best players around the world! |

There are barely any games for online multi player action, I mean why have an adapter and not even bother making games to use it? Totally useless IMO. |

I must admit that this seems like ag good thing, nintendo online, what more do you want? BUT there seems to be a massive shortage of broadband adapters, they are great but tehy are hard to find, it is ridiculous. I expected more really. |

A new age of online gaming for GameCube

America has it, japan has it.. and now the UK has it. That's right! Online Multiplayer capabilities for the Nintendo GameCube. The UK is usually last to receive console technology but it's better late than never. The broadband adapter also has a sister adapter called the Modem adapter for those 56k'ers but promises to offer as much stability as it can to avoid online game lag. If Nintendo suceed with this though, you'll only have to worry about being cut off at the end of your 2 hr slot on your internet connection (with thanks to freeserve). The broadband adapter works much the same as a PC. The adapter has a MAC address, it has settings for username and password (if needed) and can also work with a router. The Broadband adapter fits snuggly into the bottom of your GameCube then connects with RJ45 to your Cable Modem or router. All you need to do now is sort out your settings ang your away. The strong points to the broadband adapter are:
> High speed connectivity to online games
> Local Area Network Connectivity
> Router enabled
> Massive online gaming capability The bad points to the broadband adapter are:
> No surfing or e-mail capabilities
> You've still got wires running around your house
> Alot of games need subscriptions to play them online Minimum Requirements for a broadband Adapter for GameCube:: > Nintendo GameCube > Broadband connection equipment, such as a DSL modem or cable modem. This connection should be located near the Nintendo GameCube. Otherwise, you will require a longer connection cable.
Please note that the Broadband Adapter is not compatible with an ISDN connection or satellite modem! > A 10BaseT network cable with RJ45 connection plug for connecting the Nintendo GameCube Broadband Adapter to broadband connection equipment. The network cable is generally provided by the operator of the broadband connection. If you do not own one of these cables, you will need to purchase one from a specialist outlet. > A Nintendo GameCube game which is online-capable.
