Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter
|
|
|
| Description:
Jedi Starfighter is the latest in that much abused of gaming genres, the Star Wars game. Included in the few gems was Jedi's prequel, Star Wars: Starfighter, a cockpit-view shooter on the PS2. This Xbox version of the sequel serves more as an extra set of missions than a full-blown follow-up, but there are some new features and the gameplay feels a lot smoother. The finest of these new additions are the Force weapons; when playing as the Starfighter itself, you're able to utilise the Force to unleash mass devastation on your foes. The 15 missions alternate between control of this craft and a more robust ship well stocked with missiles; despite being based around a basic protect-and-shoot premise, the missions are nicely varied in style. The controls are baffling at first but you'll soon be pulling off some outrageous manoeuvres as you hunt down the enemy ships while issuing commands to your comrades. The graphics in these dogfights are fantastic, especially when using the zoom option, but larger ships tend to explode in a less than convincing fashion. The lack of recognisable characters, bar an appearance from Mace Windu and a Yoda voiceover, does detract, as does the lack of the classic Star Wars ships (the game is based indirectly on Episode 2). This is partially made up for by an unlockable Tie Fighter along with some new missions and some truly bizarre bonus material. While being a bit too similar to the previous game to warrant buying both, Jedi Starfighter is a very accomplished title that only suffers slightly from its repetitive nature.--Jonathan Winter

Not a challenge at all,

I bought this game thinking it would be a challenge like Rogue Squadron on PC.In my opinion the graphics our good and the simulations were cool BUT it isn't much of a challenge at all! |

Lacks depth!

I've played this game a few times and have mixed feelings about it. Its all very smoothly produced, but it seems to lack depth. To add to that, it doesn't really feel like the StarWars universe, despite there being droid fighters and Trade Federation ships - I had kind of hoped that this would have been a similar game to RogueSquadron on the N64, but it isn't. Infact, JediStarfighter feels more like LylatWars on the N64, i.e. well produced, but quite cartoony! Thats not such a bad thing in itself, but for people who grew up with serious, in-depth games like X-Wing and Tie-Fighter on a desktop PC, I wouldn't rush out to buy this! |

I've had this game for awhile and I couldn't tell you how long i've played it but anyway. I don't even know why I bought this game, I just walked into Game one day and it was playing on the XBOX in the store. I FELL IN LOVE with the graphics, they are EXCEPTIONAL, and the gameplay is smoother than a knife through air. It is a great game, one of the best. You follow a story going through different missions protecting a broken down ship that's going to commit suicide to destroy an enemy generator, saving an island from hex weapons that will kill all the lives of the ones on the island, use the force to slow down time, protect your ship, destroy other ships, and create and explosive fuse that destroys ships in the area. IT IS THE BEST GAME!! |
