Shattered Universe
(May 08, 2005) |
|
A bit of a disappointment for sure,Biggest downfall some missions are brutally hard, you take a 25 mins pounding from the Imperials, the klingons, misc baddies, then just when you think thank-god, I survived, the Orion show up,BOOM! Start right from the begining, very annoying. Anyone who can get though this game on the harder levels, without snapping the disk or having a pyschotic episode deserves a medal period. If Excelsior would somewhat defend herself it would help. Graphics again disappointing,Character's skin fits badly and looks almost plastic, for all the detail they put into ships you blow up anyway. they could have done better in the characters. What ever happened to the interactive movies? Since they already had Sulo's,Chekov's voice, why not spend a little more and edit in the real actors? That alone would had made this game prime. On the positive the actual gameplay and ships are pretty cool! Killing Capitals, joyous! watching small enemies attempting to out run the load of missiles, you just sent after them, sweet revenge. |

I'm sorry but i quite liked this, for the most part!!!

This game does have is moments of sheer excellence in my view, then again, it also has its moments of pure annoyance where all you would like to do is snap the disc in half, i found these few and far between though. Moments of excellence, things like taking down battleships when your entire group focuses together, plus the added realism that should you get hit by the weapons of a crusiser like the enterprise, it doesn't happen like a pee shooter, your shields will be gone and the ship will react like a fly does to a fly swatter!!!! Moments of sheer disbelief... the mission where you have to destroy around 25 mines in under a minute when your ship only reaches the first mine after 25 seconds is a good example of annoyances (still not got past this level) So the graphics aren't the best, i didn't buy this game expecting them to be the best, also the controls are not as bad as everyone else makes them out to be, there quite functional on the standard pad (no idea about the new slimline offical pad)... i bought this game expecting it to be borderline dire, and its proved a pleasant surprise, i cannpt see why its mocked so heavily, please ignore all reviews singing only its praises, and ones that slate it only... just make your own damn decision and either rent this or buy it (its not eactly expensive is it). |

I'm a real Star Trek fan but there is only one thing to say about this game - it's absolute rubbish. Poor gameplay, bad graphics and yes the list goes on.... |

Bland, uninspiring and frustrating as hell

Bad, that's the only word that comes into my head when you mention this game. No pretty words, here are my feelings on this game and it's shortcomings. Your fighter is just... Sluggish and barely controllable. Your capital cruiser just sits there and is more than willing to take whatever pounding the AI cares to throw at it. The idea that a teeny tiny fighter can take out a Capital cruiser is ludicrous, do you have any idea of the power levels involved to create a shield and more importantly, just what are those hulls made out of? Tissue paper? Shattered universe could have been an excellent Tv show, but as a game not enough effort had gone into making it worthwhile, there are problems with the ships/fighters, problems with the AI and more importantly, the game play is just bland most missions are either insanely hard, or just repetive. I couldn't recommend that you go buy Freespace 2 in leu of this game. Avoid, unless a HUGE Star Trek fan. |

Looking Good
(March 20, 2004) |

Although most Star Trek games are set on the PC a few make it onto the consoles such as Elite Force and Invasion. This game takes a twist on the Star Trek Universe taking on the role laid down in the episode "Mirror Mirror" of TOS, but taking place after the Sixth film. You take control of Captain Hikaru Sulu and the U.S.S Excelsior, trapped in the mirror universe you must fight to survive and find your way back to the "normal" reality. Shattered Universe is just like Invasion in the fact you control fighter craft rather than the full ships like in Bridge Commander or Klingon Academy. Invasion, though had a good plot and stunning visuals, the gameplay was lacking with sluggish controls and sumtimes "impossable" eneimies. Here's hoping that Shattered Universe shatters the bounderies of Invasion and warps us to a highly enjoyable game!! |
