Project Gotham Racing 4 (Xbox 360)
|
|
|
| Description:
'Project Gotham Racing 4' boasts a dramatic new weather system, revamped career mode, revised Kudos system, new tracks and locations as well as the world's most iconic vehicles. As well as a huge line up of exciting new features, for the first time in 'PGR' history, drivers will have the option of racing a variety of motorcycles from top manufacturers, such as Ducati, BMW and Honda. Whether on two wheels or four, players must perform daring and stylistic moves to win over their fans, who will cheer them on as they follow their road to racing notoriety.
In addition, through a new content server, drivers can save their favourite races and search over Xbox LIVE for race content that is specific to their interests. Players can find out who has the longest slide or wheelie in Shanghai or St. Petersburg, for example, through the innovative new content server.

Not as good as i hoped

Basically PGR4 is pretty good but...
I thought this game would be as good as all the videos I've seen, but for some reason the graphics don't look as good as they do during replay. Also it starts you off in a Ford Sierra on tracks that are flat and square, just one after another, god it's very monotonous, so I wasn't very pleased about that, I mean, I just got bored - what's wrong with some curves? Maybe a bit of variation? I mean is it like that all the way through?
Anyway i played a demo of Race Driver GRID and that seems much much better, with curves and hills and cooler cars and realistic crashes and everything (which PRG4 should have had), so I'm going to get that one, once the price comes down a bit... |

Something different.....

This took a bit of getting used to after moving from various rally games but it doesn't disappoint, almost endless single player career and arcade modes and Xbox live is just a tap of the button away, really fun and competitive at times with plenty of options to make things more interesting- some snow and ice thrown in tests your skills. Great to have bikes too with the R1 being a favourite, just a pity the cars and bikes are all production based, some rally and track cars and bikes would be a great addition for PGR5! |

best racing game

This game is stunning visually and graphically. It has a set of challenging but gettable achievements which ae the best on xbox 360. There is a wide variety of cars and amazing weather effects. If you have HD tv you must own this. I can't wait for PGR5 (if there is one). |

Disappointing

I'm a huge fan of this series of games, having started with MSR on Dreamcast. I was really looking forward to this game and bought it the day it came out but I have to, very reluctantly, say I really haven't enjoyed it. The visuals are fantastic, and the arcade handling of the cars is still great, but the game has been ruined by several unnecessary features. Firstly, the motorcycle handling is terrible and the 'stunt' moves you can make add nothing to the experience. Secondly, the game structure is based upon a calendar which annoyingly means you don't get a chance to practice events; if you lose you have to wait all year for the event to turn up again which is very frustrating when the race is an invitational in order to win a car. Thirdly, and worst of all, the weather effects only serve to make the game harder. Levels with heavy snow are appalling as the greatest supercar suddenly has the handling characteristics of a drunken hovercraft, whereas the AI cars speed around the track regardless. The rainstorms put huge puddles in the track which are usually unavoidable and cause the car to spin without warning, except for AI cars which magically stay on the track. Even the occasional flash of lightning can ruin a cone challenge when the whole screen is obscured for a moment as you drift around a corner. The whole game is a tangle of pointless attempts at innovation that constantly scratch and dig away at a core game that was practically perfect to start with. In a word: ruined! |

It seems i like the even numbers

Project gotham racing 1 - didn't like the structure of the game and found it too hard too soon
PGR2 - Brilliant single player mode which starts easy and gradually gets harder and look up lots of my time.AND a wicked online game which introduced amongst other things the 'cat and mouse' game which i loved.
PGR3 - not as good as 2 with much fewer cities and a much less good single player mode. Online was Ok but not as good as 2
PGR 4 - Brilliant really brilliant - the single player has a nice calendar structure and the kudos you earn allow you to buy new cars, tracks (i've just unlocked the Nurburing 5 mins ago :) ) and bikes as well as game modes (Not quite sure what bulldog is yet but sounds interesting.)
Like PGR2 this game is addictive and coupled witht he arcade mode will eat into many of my free hours over the coming weeks
I haven't tried the online (no xbox live now) but this game is worth buying for the single player alone
highly recommended |
