Right well I guess I should help you folks decide if this game is any good for you.
To start off this is possibly one of the best games in its genre mainly because its possibly the only 1 in its genre. Let me explain.
You start off as a level 1 Avatar of your choice say a Warrior, Necromancer, Mage, Elementalist. Such games like Diablo, Baulders Gate, Guild wars use this same style. You can customize your characters by equiping new armour, rings, helmets, waepons, shields, staffs, trousers etc. So its RPG heavy. Now ontop of your Avatar accepting quests, killing monsters and leveling up, you also build a base using Rune Stones. You choose from Humans, Elvs, Dwarfs, Orcs, Trolls and Night Elvs. Sounds familiar? Ok so the races may ring a few bells but as for the bases go you construct defences like arrow towers, mental towers, ice towers, you can build barracks to train your troops etc. So it has an RTS side but how do you get recourses? Is it like Tiberium from cnc? Is it mass or energy from supreme commander? Well infact its exactly like age of empires. Your villagers chop forrests for wood, hunt wild animals or buld farms for food, mine metals for weapons, some races even use more luxery things like lenya and aria or even moonsilver.
Does any of this sound familiar yet? Lets recap.
Diablo style character building of your avatar with leveling up, new magic and weapons.
Age of Empires style resource gathering for your economic growth.
Any major RTS game battle style with units fighting over epic landscapes.
Lord of the Rings units like elvs, dwarfs and not to mention a Balrog.
Your avatar recieves attribute points when you level up which you can spend on incresing your required abilities or you can choose to learn something new like white magic if your a warrior. Useful for healing buffs.
You can choose to play the whole game with only the Avatar though this is a challange for hardcore players and may become near impossible later on.
This pack includes both expansions which are both extremely long. In all your looking at around 200 hours of gameplay.
A decent game with suprising gameplay with its RPG+RTS mix. I loved it, spend months playing it.
The voice acting is terrible but the story is good. They dont usually talk unless its a quest or something important.
So why 5 stars?
1 star for game length (200+ hours)
1 star for music (several awards)
1 star for usable items, armour, spells (theres alot)
1 star for gameplay (fantastic options for upgrading units, avatar)
1 star for sheer experiance. Its something your not going to forget easily thats for sure.
So thats it. If it sounds too good to be true then try it for yourself and you'll be very suprised. |
