great game, if you download patch 1.4
(June 29, 2005) |
|
This game offers a mix of the legendary Syndicate ( and its follower Syndicat Wars), and The Sims, and the setting is Little Italy mob scene. I find the graphics engine truly remarkable: birds-eye view, but zoomable and fully rotating 3D, nicely detailed, and a world full of life. Gameplay was at first a bit confusing. One of the first missions is to go and extort a weapons dealer. Instead, I went out and killed the guy. When I returned to my boss, his reactions was confusing: he gave me the same mission. Huh? So I went out again, and found the same arms dealer again. Also progress and saving in the game is problematic. Still, I have to say that after installing the latest patch for the game, a 48MB download, most bugs were gone, gameplay greatly improved, and the saving in mid game is possible. Why only 3 stars? Well, because there are at least two games, similar in theme, that do a better job: GTA and Mafia. Conclusion: the patched game is really interesting, especially because you can now buy it at discount price. |

Gangland Multiplayer, finally something new
(March 04, 2004) |
|
Finally there is something new on the scene. This is one of those few gems that manage to mix action and stratagy well. Multiplayer is just a blast, you have to secure and defned areas of the level to be able to take on your opponent rather like the board game Risk, but also can also come down to a blazing gun battle where reflexes realy need to be sharp when you get into a heated confrontation. It can also have you in stitches when you use some of the more unusual features that abound like infultration where you can persuade your opponents characters to join your forces. It would be so cool to see their faces, but you have to make do with the screams of horror and then laughter when they find out that their men are turning agains them. Novel, a real breath of fresh air, although the interface is a little difficult and you need a lot of play time to find out all the little secrets I really hope this game makes it on-line as it is the most fun I have had in multyplayer ever. |

A pleasant surprise
(March 01, 2004) |

Moody, violent, gritty, the game has all the hallmarks of a cult classic. I've only played the first 5 single player missions, but already i'm hooked. The graphics are richly detailed, the sound very atmospheric, anyone who likes the originality of old classics like Syndicate Wars, with a hint of GTA3 & The Sims will realise that this is probably the best £25 they will spend on a game for a long time. An essential purchase for any self respecting gamer. |
