Imperfect port
(December 14, 2007) |
|
This game was one of the best Xbox games when it first came out, the players are easy to control and the gameplay perspective (camera behind the player, rather than the bird's eye view of most tennis games) is really well done. However it wasn't written for PC and so doesn't work perfectly on every computer. On my computer it worked for a couple of weeks, but then one day stopped launching, so I think it may conflict with a Microsoft update or something similar. Either way, it's not guaranteed to work on every PC! |

Didn't work on my computer but looked good.

Firstly my computer was unable to run this game propally so i only got a short look at it. From what i could see it looked a very good game. The cerear mode is excellent as you can travel round the worl and play in different tournements at different levels. You can even get a sponser. the Graphis where also good. The Player AI is probably the most impresive thing, it's the best tennis game i'v ever played. |

Excellent, but resource intensive!
(April 01, 2005) |

The other review here is correct - the game is resource intensive, and despite using a computer that is a year old, there is a struggle as the game goes through tournaments (the frame rate drops massively, which makes play a bit tricky) - even at reduced resolutions. As with the XBox game, you choose between exhibition matches between 'real' players of your choice (disappointingly out of date - Sampras is one of them, which maybe isn't the worst thing on earth - but no Federer!). The other choice is to enter a career which involves creating your own player, using the exhaustive menus and tools to make the player you want. The career mode (where you will spend the bulk of your time)is thoroughly addictive. The AI is advanced, and beating the top players is incredibly demanding. The levels expand out from entry to low level tournaments to the grand slams. Added to this is the opportunity to gain sponsors (all the major sponsors are here), and progress as you attain greater levels of fame. Worth checking out, provided you have a broadband connection, is the multiplayer mode. In many ways, the clincher for this game! The graphics are superb, if your PC can hack it (I'd recommend at least an ATI Radeon 9600/9800 or equivalent to do this game justice - my 9200 with 128 mb of RAM only just manages with a 3GHz processor and 512mb RAM...), and the ways of motivating your player, psyching up the crowd, and antagonising the opponent addictive. Thoroughly recommended, albeit with the proviso that the PC needs to be pretty potent to extract the full potential! |

Game doesn't even start
(November 17, 2004) |
|
No mention anywhere when I bought this game that you needed a PC with a graphics card that supports either Vortex or Pixel Shaders, I don't know what these are, but I found out that my graphics card doesn't support it. So despite my PC being only 1 year old, very fast, with tons of memory, because the graphics card doesn't feature either of these 2 things, the game wont even start, and there doesn't appear to be any way round it. No information whatsoever on Atari's website, in fact, the game doesn't even appear on their site. A search on the internet reveals lots of people with exactly the same problem, but no solutions. Very disappointing from Atari. |
