Good game but too easy
(March 04, 2005) |

The game has many good points. The different courts play distinctly differently, from fast paced American hard courts to the slow clay of Europe. But limiting the game to the Masters Series means no grass courts, which is a shame. The computer opponents have their own distinct styles and abilities, which may require you to adapt your shots slightly. The controls are simple and sensible, and you can change the keys to suit yourself. The difficulty levels are more defined than in some other games, but even the `pro` level is too easy. After just a couple days' light playing, I found I could win every set 6-0. A better AI level so that the computer players `learn` to anticipate your shots and your style would have greatly improved the game. Also disappointing was the absence of female players - again because of the limiting factor of the Masters. In general, this, this is an enjoyable, entertaining game with some nice touches, but lasting appeal is spoiled because it's simply too easy. |

Oh so easy...

Tennis Masters 2003 is a great game for any tennis fan but falls short on long lasting appeal. Firstly was the disappointment of no real player names so instead of facing Federer, you'll be facing Jancovic and a whole host of made up people. You can change all of their names if you choose but then the umpire will refer to them only as player 1 and player 2. The most disappointing thing is the difficulty level. I bought this game 2 days ago and after about 1 hour of play I can win a set but lose in a tight 3rd set (it's good fun at this stage) but by the 4th hour of play I jacked up the difficulty setting to "master" and I'm winning tournaments without losing a game. I won the final of Indian Wells 6-0 6-0 6-0. Overall it's a good game but needs a bit more AI to make it a bit harder! |

What a game!

What a game. Amazingly realistic down to the Umpire telling off the crowd for being too noisy, this will satisfy every tennis fan. Control is easy, both with keyboard or gamepad, sound is fantastic and the action replays are varied and exciting. |
