Colin McRae Rally 2.0
|
|
|
| Description:
The world of rally driving is an interesting one. Get a car that is virtually the same as a standard road-going vehicle, and then drive it as fast as you can along a dirt track with hairpin bends, fjords and basically terrain that the car doesn't take too kindly to. Sounds like fun, you say. Colin McRae Rally 2 from Codemasters on the PC continues on from the success of the Playstation version, and apart from a few tweaks here and there on the graphical side of things recreates the same sense of fun. Coming into a field that is already jam-packed with great titles like Mobil Championship Rally and the original Colin McRaeit has somehow managed to produce the goods not only in the form of a game that does what it does well, but one that also introduces new ideas to what is a rather staid format. Every little detail has been taken care of, whether it's the presentation of the Wipeout3-looking option screens, or the dents and smashes on your car as you hurtle around the courses. Twelve different cars and over 80 new rally tracks in eight countries to choose from will keep you busy. If this doesn't satisfy, then perhaps the inclusion of a large multiplayer section within the game, where you have the option to be one of eight other people in a tag team scenario, will. Colin McRae Rally 2.0 advances the original Colin McRae Rally. Improved graphics for the PC dealing with Trilinear, Mapping qualities and other such niceties are all present and better. More realistic gameplay has allowed this game to be among the greats when it comes to quality rally driving. If you are a rally fan, then it's well worth the investment. If however, you believe that once you've played one rally game, you've played them all, it's probably best to steer clear of this one and stick to the one you've already got. --Stuart Miles

Leave it

Leave this game well alone. SNES quality graphics. combined with broken up cars. The original Colin McRae Rally is fantastic. stick to that and avoid this broken mess of a game |

Do not waste your time on this game. i dont care. Just buy the original. will you. Waste your time on PRO RALLY 2001. a crappy game which has too many rubbish game modes. this game is utter drivel. Infact it's the worst rally game I've ever played including PRO RALLY 2001 |

This game is not funny because of the computer cars and not good because I get very bad split time then Crash Crash then say goodbye to your damaged car and the Pause Menu is not very good and If you buy this game you're a loser and not a very good driver Even it's very poor that you could compete as Colin in CMR3 and not in CMR2 but anyway the stages and cars are rubbish |

apples with apples

Sorry - but if you like playing racing games on a pc - you are after a good game that provides fun and you don't want to feel you have made a 'poor' purchase. This game is "ok" if you haven't tried any other - but if you compare it with "Mobil-1 Rally" (which in truth has poorer car handling and sound) - the superior graphics and gameplay on Mobil-1 totally blow this game (and its predecessor) out of the water - at a third of the cost! Comparing apples with apples you would then realise that maybe this purchase is not as good as you thought it was - enough said. |

Not unlike the man himself; sheer class...

Ropey pre-rendered stage introductions apart (the in-game graphics are vastly better), this is an outstanding rallying simulation. It runs beautifully (as it should on my P933/256Mb/GEForce2 GTS) and the car modelling is excellent, as are their varied driving characteristics. The physics engine is mostly very convincing, with the notable exception of certain immovable trackside objects (eg: advertising billboards & signs) which will stop you dead from 100mph+, and don't sustain any damage. A small point, but it detracts from the fine sense of overall realism and attention to detail. The variety of environments on offer is impressive, and the need to adapt your driving style significantly to cope with them adds an important extra dimension to the gameplay. By way of a bonus, the arcade mode is fun for a quick multiplayer blast, but it's very secondary to the game proper. Any fan of driving games should enjoy this, and you certainly don't have to be a rallying enthusiast. |
