Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007 (PC DVD)
|
|
|
Description:
In a nutshell: Tiger Woods returns and in better form than his recent Ryder Cup letdown, with a whole host of refinements and additions (and the odd subtraction) to the winning PGA Tour formula. The lowdown: The problem with updating a golf game every year is that, unlike most other sports, nothing much changes in terms of players or courses. Despite that, this update tries its best with new courses, new golfers, an expanded online mode and an even better create-a-golfer mode. The only downside to all this is that the main "Rivals" single player mode from last year's game has gone, replaced with the inferior "Team Tour" mode. It doesn't affect the selection of other modes though, including new options "Elimination" and "OneBall" and the four player "Bloodsome and Greensome". It may not reinvent the wheel but it does at least add some very welcome decoration to it - and thankfully not in the style of most golf clothing. Most exciting moment: The best bit about PGA Tour is still its simple and accessible controls. There are two main controls, the first uses the left analogue stick to swing and set the power and the right aims where you hit the ball. The alternative control places the hook and slice on the right stick, if that's how you prefer it. Since you ask: The Xbox 360 version of the game became infamous as the first game to allow you to unlock the extra features by paying money via micro-transactions on Xbox Live Marketplace. You can, however, still unlock them the honest way on all the different versions. The bottom line: A minor update to the world's favourite golf game. -HARRISON DENT

Rubbish dont buy it
(March 24, 2008) |

This game is an absolute disgrace to pc gaming, How a company like EA Sports is allowed to get away with selling a game so full of bugs is beyond me, you get crash after crash after crash, corrupt graphics, unrealistic game play and the list just goes on and on, please dont just take my word for it, log onto EA Sports website and read the forums about this game and see for yourself.
I wasted my money buying this game, I installed it and got so frustrated that I uninstalled it and threw the game in the bin, that is how disgusted I was with it.
Im sorry but I cant find anything good to say about it. |

gentle game

This reminds of the first time playing the real thing, for the first time all those years ago. Considering that the price of the game is quite cheap and obviously a lot of work has gone into the making of the software, I would rate this quite high. |

Is this progress?
(August 01, 2007) |

I was given this game by my son, as the graphics were a problem in his laptop and went back to his earlier version.
I had not played a golf sim game for about 12 years, back in the days of my old Sega Megadrive.
I was well impressed with the graphics, and the create a golfer option, but disappointed by the actual gameplay.
Back on the old Megadrive game I remember being able to check out the yardages to hazards, so that you could drop your shot short of a hazard, or ensure you had enough club to play over it. On TW07 it appears you just guess.
Another problem I encountered were the unrequested fly by views. These always happened just as you were lining up a shot, and when the screen came back to your shot the directional arrow had reverted back to the original setting.
The constant crashing, and having to load the game back up was also a major disappointment.
Despite this, after a couple of days, I'm playing tournaments, finishing level par, and still beating the opposition by 6 shots.
I hope it gets more difficult as I get further in. |

An Addict Confesses...
(June 21, 2007) |

I'd go along with the consensus opinion of most reviews that this just about makes it as an add-on to previous TW games - but EA are being a bit cheeky marketing it as a new product when so much of the game is old. Same old visual glitches - e.g. yr golfers fiendish metallic grin & weird neck protrusion. As noted, the AI/playing skills of the computer golfers are utterly hopeless. Its been quite a challenge finding ways of handicapping myself to make a game more interesting. For this reason, this edn's Team Mode really isn't much cop & not as good as the previous Dream 18 feature.
Once you're going after the Majors & have bought yr clubs etc, you're left with a stack of money & experience points & nothing really to do with them.
Its an absolute insult including the pathetic Emerald Dragon fantasy course in exactly the same form as its appeared in a previous Tw game, when the game used to feature great & challenging courses like Wentworth & Bay Hill. I agree with the reviewer's comment abt the "dumbing-down" of St Andrews - I'd say the same abt the version of Sawgrass here. However, get the winds blowing across a slick green at the K Club, Kiawah Island or the National course & its a good challenge.
But, having had my moan, I have to admit I still play the game regularly & have just put TW2008 on my Wish List - sad, eh? I'd love to find another golf game - anyone got any ideas? Meanwhile - I hope EA have taken notice of some of our comments & aren't going to foist another tarted-up add-on disc on us.

tiger woods
(June 14, 2007) |
|
aparently Tiger woods is a real golfer, I got this game as a gift because I thought it was a crazy golf game involving animals, although I still enjoyed it. I can't help but feel that the market is wide open for a golf game that features animals and loads of zany antics. Especially if it featured a mini game where you have to throw ducks at ballons to win prizes and nothing is as it seems. Although this tiger woods game does have mini games and they are fun to play even with there lack of ducks.
p.s some of the made up golfers has funny names like sergio and Colin. |
