pity about the putting
(May 05, 2008) |

This is undoubtedly a good game and, for all those "real" golfers out there, very realistic. In fact I'd go as far as to say that it will improve your golf. It has one very serious (and surprising) flaw - the putting. I've had to take a full swing at putts just to get it to go about 20 yards. Frankly, its unbelievable that it got into production without sorting this out - especially as the original version (which was a let-down because, unlike this version, it didn't have a "grid" system for reading the greens) didn't have this problem |

Quality, but still more Arcade than Simulator

I bought this cos it looked like a great idea. It turned up yesterday and I plugged it straight in. Amazingly, without any practice I managed to hit my first drive almost 300yds and perfectly down the fairway in Expert mode (and I can't hit them straight in reality that's for sure). The putting requires a fairly strong stroke, even for a 2 foot tap in I'm having to swing as if I'm putting from 30 yds, and the chipping requires some finesse (but then I can't chip on the real course so at least that's consistent.
Overall I think the game is reat fun, the raphics are good and the Controller is a great idea. I'd recommend one for anybody, but don't expect a perfect "Virtual Reality" game of golf. |

A huge improvement!

I reviewed the first incarnation of this game a year ago and said it was a brilliant innovative idea that lacked polish, but the new vesion is 100 times better. For the real life golfer there are genuine game improvement aids such as the swing trainer that tracks your swing plane (vitally important if you want to play decent golf)
I only witheld the fifth star because of the putting and chipping, which is still not quite right - you have to really jab your chips, and hit your putts about 4 times quicker than you would in real life, where a smooth slow stroke is required for both chipping and putting.
Aside from this though, it's a great game with a lot of new courses and features, addictive from the first shot. |
