Frustrating - especially for beginners

If this is the world's best solitaire, I dread to think what the worst is like.
Here are a few of the things I don't like about this suite of games:
(1) The 3D option is very difficult to use - there is no "snap to", so you have to judge exactly where to drop the card to make it stay in position. I quickly gave up.
(2) The 2D option is better, but you can't set Preferences to say that this is what you like, so you have to reset to 2D every time you start up the application.
(3) The application takes over the whole screen, including the task bar, and there is no resize button, so the only way to park the application temporarily is by minimizing it.
(4) If you need to look at the rules during a game, you can get them via the Help menu. This doesn't take you to the rules for the game you are playing, but to a list of the 500 games you can play, so it's a good idea to memorize the name of what you're playing before asking for help on it.
(5) Even if you know the name, you may not find the rules for it. I tried to play Antares (a variation of Freecell), but I couldn't find any rules for Antares in the list of 500, and the general rules for Freecell don't seem to work properly with Antares.
(6) There is no grading of the games, or any attempt to explain the different types. The instructions are terse, and only really useful to somebody already familiar with solitaire gaming.
(7) There is a hint option on the Help menu, but the hint doesn't always make sense, and if you follow hints faithfully from the beginning, games tend to end very quickly.
(8) There are no keyboard shortcuts, so hints (and everything else from the menus) have to be selected manually every time. Slow and frustrating.
(9) There is no Undo option, so even if you realize you have made a mistake immediately, there is nothing you can do about it.
(10) I am a relative beginner so I may be wrong on this, but some of the games don't seem to work the way they are described in the rules - for example, I am often prevented from making what appears to be a legal move. I therefore suspect there are bugs.
Disappointing. I am about to uninstall the product and save the disk space for something more useful. |
