This is a game that I am going to order
(August 09, 2004) |
|
This is excellent! I have played a demo only. but i am going to order. CMR3 was excellent but was a bit useless not installing because i didn't have enough disk space on my computer. The graphics are much better than Colin Mcrae Rally 3 and any of it's predecessors. which I have. Colin Mcrae 2 was not a good game. but CMR1 was. CMR1 was better than any of it's newer games. but it's not better than CM4. I WILL ORDER IT AS SOON AS i get the money. A must buy! PS: Graphics: 10/10. The graphics on this game are excellent. Gameplay: 10/10. WOW! This game has to be the king of rally games... on any platform.ANY platform... |

Colin McRae Rally 4.
(July 25, 2004) |

This game is so detailed and the levels are just gorgeous, especially the English ones. You really do feel like your driving through English country lanes. The weather and effects in the game are convincing too, sparks fly, dust and rocks are thrown up from the wheels, small obstacles move and slide convincingly when crashed into and even the trees and grass move in the wind. The modelling of the cars is superb and the damage effects are brilliant, damaged body panels flap around and come lose, windows shatter and even the dirt and dust builds up on the car as you're driving along. Both the driver and co-driver are also nicely animated and really look as if they're diving the car. The championship modes in the game are both challenging and very competitive. You can compete in both 4WD and 2WD championships in 3 difficulty modes. Playing through them unlocks an assortment of extra cars including Group B rally cars from the 1980s and some of the coolest rally cars from motoring history. Once you've unlocked them you can also compete in a Group B championship. During any championship game, you periodically visit the service area to repair your car. From time to time you are also given the opportunity to acquire upgrades for it by playing in 'Parts Testing' mini-games. Besides the Championship modes there is also Stages mode, Custom rally mode and network mode for playing on-line with up to 8 players. For an idea of how this game runs, I play it on my PIII 2GB nothing special motherboard with 1024MB of SD ram and a GeForce4 Ti graphics card (4xAGP), on Windows XP at a screen res of 1024x768 32bit, with all the game settings on high, plus the Antialiasing setting in the NVIDIA display properties set to 4x and it runs like a dream. If you're thinking about buying a good Rally game or even just a good racing game, I strongly recommend Colin McRae Rally 4. |

How to make Colin McRae Rally 04 work for you
(June 01, 2004) |
|
Here are a few tips that might make CMR04 work better for your computer. 1) Graphics Card - if you have a nVidia Ge Force4 MX 440 you will not have all the effects that you should have because you need a FX driver or higher. Prices for these Graphics cards range from £41 inc. VAT to nearly £3500 inc. VAT. You need a Supported 32Mb or a 64Mb graphics card. Supported Graphics cards - ATi: Radeon 8500LE, 8500 Pro, 9500 Pro, 9700 Pro. Matrox: Parhelia nVidia: nForce 1 or 2, GeForce, GeForce 2, GeForce 3, GeForce 4(NOT MX DRIVERS) SiS: Xabre 400 2) Windows - you need to have either Microsoft Windows 98 98SE (second edition), 2000, ME (Millennium Edition) or XPHome/Office/Proffessional Edition. IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS 95 IT WILL NOT WORK 3) Space - you need to have at least 3.5 GB hard drive/disk space (3GB for game, 500Mb free after installation). 128-512Mb RAM. 4) Sound - CMR 04 does not work with any integrated sound/graphics cards. You need Direct X 9 compatible or higher. 5) Processors - Pentium 3/4 or AMD Athlon at 2.2GHz or higher. 6) Take a note of your system configuration by selecting Run from the Start Menu and typing in dxdiag - once it has loaded select Display or Sound and take a note of what your system config is BEFORE buying any game not just Colin Mcrae Rally 04. Alternatively you could contact Codemasters - tel: 01926 816044 or fax: 01926 817595 |

CMR4
(May 19, 2004) |
|
To start with - this game is aimed at serious spec PCs I think. Firstly it requires 3GB of disk for install. OK, space is getting cheaper these days but that is as big as the hard drive on my last PC! I am running an XP, P4 2.6GHz, with 1 Gig of RAM and a NVidia GeForce MX 440 Graphics card (game has been tested on this card in development) and 80 Gig HD. I installed the game from the 4 CDs, disabled all unnecessary processes that I could. I had the game running with some half decent effects but the response for throttle and steering was about half a second - not what you want for a game where minute steering inputs in fractions of seconds make all the difference. I pretty much changed all the graphics options to be on the lowest setting (resolution, effects, detail, view length etc etc) - and my PC was still struggling with this game. I am not sure if it was my imagination but my steering did still not seem immediate (and yes I did configure all of the analogue settings etc). My PC coped with Need for Speed Underground without a hitch. I am not sure quite what you need to make this work 'properly' - Over 1Gig Ram, P4 3G+, Latest/very powerful graphics cards. Aside from the performance issues. Of course the graphics and scenery have been improved. The cars are up to spec with recent models. There are other features such as product testing but in all honestly - this didn't excite me any more than my version of CMR 2 on my Playstation 1 sitting in another room - and that is my honest opinion. Perhaps I have been doing something wrong in the setup - but I do not consider my PC underpowered and it significantly exceeds the recommended spec - and with all the lowest graphics setting, still did not play smoothly. So unless you have a monster system - (or I have been doing something wrong) - I would suggest that you won't get the benefit from this game Having said this, the graphics did look awesome on the high settings (even though the game was unplayable!)
