Agreeable but not realistic
(December 17, 2004) |
|
This is an agreeable game for beginners as you can build up experience from a very basic level. Progressing onto the higher levels sees other riders crashing into you more often - frustrating and lazy programming - the only distinguishing point at legend level over all the lower ones. That you control body position and wheelspin is good but a real bike will spin up in the dry on excess gas and these should as well to teach you throttle control as TOCA 2 does. Huge gap in between gears isn't realistic at all and braking zones are laughably short. I would prefer this game to have the bike dynamics of GP500 (which are closer to real bikes) and have the general feel of realism that the fantastic TOCA 2 has. A real bike is irretrievable (corners and on the throttle) on grass and dust and I think these ought to be. At present this game is slightly closer to simulation than arcade but has a way to go yet. Please bring out a proper, tough, simulation! |

Great fun

I was a keen motorcyclist many years ago and have always remained interested in motorcycles. I've bought what I consider to be the best of the motorcycle games on the PC: GP500, Superbike 2000 and 2001 and I really enjoyed them. I played the demo of this game and bought it recently and I am amazed at how good this is. To start with the bikes handle much better than any previous games and there are additional buttons that enable you to control the front/rear brakes and lean forward/back. There's much more to this game than you would think, as in addition to the expected championship mode there is an arcade mode and training mode where you get to do wheelies, slaloms, stoppies and burn-outs. There are also performance rewards such as weird graphical effects, mirrored tracks and extra bike decals. I would recommend this to not just motorcycle fans but to all racing fans as an excellent gaming experience. |

MotoGp : Ulimate Racing Technology
(January 08, 2003) |

MotoGp : Ulimate Racing Technology Lives up to everything i saw on the demo Version, With every offical Track & Rider of the 2001 season i was Chuffed. Has a big Two Wheels Fan i have a lot of racing games, many have come out over the last 5 or so years, but the best one by far was GP500 by Mircoprose, it was legendary for its realism, when i saw this game i thought, "THQ yeah good producer, more of a arcade type of game i thought", But then i found Champion Setting mode, Very good realism and the Grahpics Blow me away, And including Chris Walker & Leon Haslam on the Game 2 of the best British Riders around. Its good to see a Bike Racing game getting more Attenion and detial. I would reccomend this game to anyone who is a motorsport fan. |

The PC finally gets a decent racer
(August 18, 2002) |

I had the demo of this game and I was waiting for the full version. It lived up to everything I've seen in the demo. Firstly, I'm not normally a bike racing fan. I've become fed up with the "crash off every time your wheel clips a rumble-strip" physics in other games. MotGP is not like this, thank god. It has a very nice ballance between arcade and simulation; its serious enough to have such features as loss of traction in the wet, powersliding, motion transfered from bumps with other riders and so on, but is also easy enough for someone new to the area to pick up and play. The training mode is very useful in perfecting your driving, and I like the way you have to make a rider and build up skill points via training to enter the Grand Prix Championship mode. There is every game type you could want in the game - quick race, arcade championship, grand prix championship, timetrial, LAN/internet multiplayer, and even up to 4 players split-screen which I'm very pleased with as I have 2 USB dual-analog joypads. If you have forcefeedback equipment like me, you will find that its used very well. The ability for independant control of front and rear brakes, and the ability to lean forwards and backwards on the bike are very nice features. They are not necessary to do well at races, but using them will enhance your lap times and also allow you to pull off all sorts of neat tricks. The graphics are easily comparable, if not better, to those of GrandTurismo 3 on the PS2. Sun glares off the track, trees cast detailed shadows, and the view distance and ammount of objects such as trees is incredible. Better still, you don't need a supercomputer to run the game - I get nice fluid gameplay on an Athlon 1Ghz with GeForce3 Ti200, with most settings on max. The special effects, which I'm not going to spoil for you, range from good to stunning. The only area the game lacks something in is sound. Engine noises are fine, but as one review I read put it, when you hit another bike it sounds rather like someone hitting a filing cabinate with a brick. There is also no use of the surround capabilities of modern 4.1 or 5.1 sound setups, although you will get output through all your speakers. Despite having only average sound, this game is easily the best racer of ANY type for the PC in years. Its great to play, looks great, runs on affordable equipment, and is very nicely put together with attention to detail. This game puts many others to shame - it has been made really well. A must buy for anyone into racing. |
