A massive leap backwards
(August 07, 2004) |
|
I bought this game thinking it would be an improvement on the original .the original you could build forts you could allocated generals you could pick tactics you could take prisoners you had a choise of several different maps to play on and you had the choise to play a direct conversion of the board game. All Risk II is is a direct conversion (alright i'll admit a very good conversion) of the board game with a very few add ons. the only advantage this game has over the original is that it has a hotseat option which the original dosn't.This should have been so much more just buy the original |

Wellington vs. Napoleon The Second Round
(October 24, 2001) |

The game sticks very closely to the board game, it has well animated battle scenes (although you can only role digital dice) and enthralling gameplay with deep running strategies. With unlimited scenarios, due to the different generals and objectives.A true masterpiece in board game adaption! |

Perfect conversion of a board game
(October 24, 2001) |

This is a perfect conversion of a board game into a computer game. The main problem with the board game was that it was so longwinded as you had to slowly roll dice time after time after time. The computer speeds this whole process up and makes playing the computer game a lot more enjoyable. You can choose to play with exactly the same rules as the board game. However you also have a number of options that subtly change the game but not so much to make you feel as though your not playing Risk anymore. The best of these options is Simultaneous Turns. This speeds the game up even more if you're playing against someone on another computer and also means that you have to try and guess what moves your opponents are going to make, which makes the game more fun. The game also has nice graphics and includes some excellent Artificial Intelligences to play against. The best of which are good enough to be challenging, even to experts. There are much more sophisticated turn-based conquest games available for the PC, such as Civilization, Space Empires or Age of Wonders. However, if you're looking for a relatively simple game, which won't take too long to play, this is just what you want. |

Risk II
(October 22, 2001) |
|
Great improvment over Risk I in almost every respect. Good user interface, no obvious bugs. Plenty of new types of play, including a mode for running all the attacks from a round at once. Although Risk is a fantastic game this version does suffer from being a bit slow to play. Once you have got past the learning stage you may well find yourself frustrated by the pace of play. If you have played Risk I then expect a superior bit of software that just takes a lot longer to play a game. |
