Great adaptation, some annoying features!!!

I loved the original board game, and couldn't wait to buy this when it came out. I find it to be quite a good adaptation of the game, if a bit slow when playing against the computer!! The voices added to characters can become very annoying, but there is a option to turn them off!!! The game is overall very good and true to its origninal, though being best when played with other people, it perhaps becomes unneeded to have it computer based!!! Features that esp appeal are the ability to change board types and custom fit the rules of the game. |

not the real thing

i am a massive fan of monopoly and since the rest of my family isn't i thought this would be a great way to satisfy my need. i was very excited when i first started playing even though the camera angle toggle seemed to have a mind of it's own. i played a few games and i was still into it kind of. then i got bored the computer were just annoying they seemed to never trade anything! since it's very hard to get three of the same properety by chance you have to rely on trading. the computer won't trade you 3 colours for less than 1 and a half grand! it just dosent seem to have the same exitement as the real thing. without humans it's kinda pointless. i dont think the publishers did a bad job in making the game i just don't think monopoly is made for computers. all in all i love monopoly and it's an okay game but i never seem to have the urge to pick it up. wierd huh? p.s i would have given it 2 and a half |

An improvement on the last version

I have recently bought Monopoly new edition, and have found it far supreme to the earlier Monopoly PC game, owned by a friend. For a start, it has several foreign boards (only names of properties changed), which come with the appropriate accent and currency for the property names. Another feature that makes it better than the earlier edition was that if 2 players make a trade, the other players don't have to agree fo the trade to take place. There are also up to date chance and community chest cards, as a few features of the board game have changed since the original game. Despite some very annoying phrases repeated again and again by 'Mr. Monopoly' and the pieces, and the terrible background tune, the great animations and the already mentioned advantages get it 4 stars from me. Happy playing! |

pass go, collect £200 and considerable irritations

If ever a game lost a lot in translation to pc it's this. You miss the presence of friends and family, and the actual feel of dice in your hands, and that crinkly paper monopoly money. Also on the negative side, prepare to be irritated to death by some of the most annoying character voices ever, and feeble puns, repeated over, and over, and over.... It's got bugs too. Computer players occasionally stop playing altogether, freezing the game. On the plus side, this does grow on you, the basic fun of amassing a fortune and ruining others is still there, and there's some neat touches, like a calculator that lets you calculate various odds. All in all, a qualified success. And you can switch off the character voices. |
