The reviews on this page are spot on. It's a completely addictive game on several levels. There's the day to day running of your mining systems, production operations and expansion and exploration. Then, because it's a real-time world with lots going on populated by real people behind the other empires, there's the whole 'relationship maintenance' thing to do with allies, neighbours and enemies. A favour done for another player on day 1 can mean a huge favour in return just when you need it on day 18...and the reverse hehehe. Then the tactics of defence and attack are a whole skill-set in themselves. The adrenaline rush of an attack on another player - maybe planned over several weeks - is real even though you're at your keyboard on a rainy night. And the oddest thing about ToD is the subtlety of some of the gameplay which arises as an emergent property of the game's programming from the Nicely Crafted Team. Almost everything can interact with everything else in the game (unlike your average Sony PS2 game say which has limited interaction rules) and there can be some quirky combinations with odd, but useful, side-effects. But the worst thing about ToD is the danger of "I'll just look in for 5 minutes to see what's happening" just before you go to bed....and finally logging out at 3pm. It's the crack cocaine of MMOGs. |

i got this game over xmas and it i simply the best game i have yet to see. If you want to be completely emersed in a brillant game give this one a go - i recommend as a MUST BUY |

Beware - utterly addictive

This game is one of the most addictive games I've ever played, It's one of those "Just let me colonise one more island before I go to bed" games and the good thing is, you tell it to colonise the island, go to bed anyway after disconnecting from the server and when you wake up it's done. Therein lies the real quality of this game, you stack up your orders, go to work and the next time you logon your orders have been carried out. The flipside is though, while you're in bed dreaming of the new islands you've scheduled to colonise, some evil so and so is taking over your territory. Gameplay at times can be a tad slow with some vehicles taking more than 2 real hours to reach their destination but you've GOT to stay up just to see that it gets there okay. Well worth the money and time - don't schedule anything around any other part of your life as you just won't find the time. |

What a fantastic Game!

I have been playing games for years, and this has to be one of the best ever. How fantastic that everyone else you meet is another human! It is a real challenge, you really can deceive and be deceived or make an honourable pact and keep it with other people, not some random AI that you can fool and get the better of. This has to be the best game of the year and I recommend that everyone who reads this should go out and buy it! The full version of the game is so much more beautiful than the downloadable version and makes playing it an incredibly pleasant experience. Well done Nicely Crafted its a winner! |

What a supurb game

I've been playing Time of Defiance for the last 7 hours and must say I'm utterly addicted - an excellent strategy game and, the fact that it's online means that every other empire in the game is controlled by another player!!!!!! At last a game where I can truly test my gaming ability against a multitude of other people and not just the odd few you can do in games such as Age of Empires and Quake III! This game is HUGE and there were at least *300* other empires in the game I was playing, I'm going back to it - I need to win:) |
