If this game dont keep you on the edge of you seat, it will sure keep you up through the night!
this game has the classic weaponds and ugly beasts to kill, its total mad! 3 different endings depending on what you do through the game!
iv now gotten the ties that bind yet i still think the story is better on this one.

Very impressed after only an hour

I must admit, I like "The Suffering" ALOT. I'm a great fan of the TPS horror genre and the Silent Hill series in particular. I can't yet say whether this game is as scary as SH but already it's given me goosebumps. The graphics are fantastic and the game is unbelievably atmospheric. Many gamers will also be pleased to know that you don't need a top of the range PC to run this game smoothly. I have relatively average specs and the game runs like a dream (Athlon XP 1700+ 512MB RAM) The controls are also very simple to get used to and there aren't too many in-game options to confuse you. People of a weak disposition probably wouldn't appreciate this game because it does use alot of coarse language and it is very bloody. However, if you have an open mind and would like to play a game which is just a little bit different from most TPS', then I would definately recommend it to you. The basic outline of the game is the following: You have just been transfered to a prison on an island off the Maryland coast. The other prisoners start to divulge in irrelevant discourse amongst themselves and suddenly the electricity starts to fail and the guards and inmates all meet very gruesome deaths at the hands of various malevolent and deformed creatures who make a dramatic entrance through the prison ceiling. From that point on, it's all about you staying alive by any and all means necessary. |

A Great Game, Let Down By Variable Quality
(September 10, 2005) |
|
I don't think I have ever played a game with such a variable standard of graphic quality. At its best, the graphics are very good indeed. The trouble is.....that standard is not maintained throughout, and one moment you can be playing a scene with really high quality, only to enter another room and find the detail of resolution has become rather poor. Which is a pity, as The Suffering is actually a superb game.....let down primarily by that lack of attention to consistent standards in the graphics. The game itself is actually great fun to play. I take all the stuff about it being 'disturbing' with a pinch of salt. Somehow I can't see myself putting a hatchet through the mother-in-law's head and claiming this game incited me. It's a game....fer crying out loud ! People who can't cope should stick to Sim City. One of the other reviews describes the game as a 'third person' shooter. I'd like to correct that....as there is actually a toggle between third person and first person. You CAN play the entire game in first person mode if you want to ! Overall, I'd say that this is another of those games that is never going to match the standards of Far Cry, Or Half Life 2, or Doom 3, but is never the less just sheer fun to play. It certainly has a high scare factor...which I'd rate above that of the Silent Hill games. At the end of the day...the most important factor of any game is not whether it has the latest super-wizzo graphics, the best AI in the world, or can make your blood curdle at 20 paces. It is that factor that finds you still playing it at 3.30 in the morning when you have to go to work that day. This game has that factor. |

Disturbing but Simply Excellent
(June 12, 2005) |
|
The Best 18 rated game i've ever played in my entire life. The great story line of you as the main character who commits many murders throughout his life creates a great horrifing intro. The constant flashbacks of him killing his family and other people during gameplay always makes you jump and you are always tense no matter what the scenery around you looks like. Midway the producers have made a great game and it is truly shocking as bloody action never stops! In the game you are able to change into a horrifing monster when your insanity meter is full, also the game requires you to use some brain cells to figure out just which way to go and can get very fustrating sometimes. In conclusion on the whole the game is great, graphics great and gameplaay excellent, but bewarned it scares you pooless!!! |

This is a very sick game ~ I wish I could rate it zero stars
(December 13, 2004) |

I suggest this game should not be played by any decent person. The depiction of war and killing is well established in modern games and, although not terribly wholesome, is a base level which below no computer game manufacturer should ever sink. But I have to warn you this game does. I overheard a sequence that involved a child, apparently in a darkened and locked cell, pleading for forgiveness and an explanation as to what was happening, the remarks apparently addressed to the father. To me the content and manner of delivery seem reminiscent of horrific tapes that Brady and Hindley made of their victims prior their torture and subsequent murder in the 60s. This material is most inappropriate and debases anyone that voluntarily takes part. I urge all serious gamers to boycott this (so called) game ~ do not play it and encourage others to do the same. Although I am used the sounds of war, guns, death, monsters, vampires and harpies, this was too much I found the sequence disturbing and most upsetting. It is very very sick. |
