Good, but not great

I loved the first Clive Barker's game as it was scary and drew you in. Jericho followed the example in that the story is very interesting although a little too linear. It felt ... short.
At the very beginning we are told there's a firstborn - a being created by God but discarded as it was too powerful. In other words, you know right away that at the end you will be fighting the firstborn, there's no escape, no choice, say for example to join up with him and see what happens, i.e. no alternate endings.
All in all the game reminded me both of Fahrenheit and Doom 3 with its atmosphere and some of the game play (like the little games where you had to press a sequence of keys correctly to trigger the correct sequence of punches is very much Fahrenheit).
The original take in this game is in the fact that after the fisrt level you get the ability to possess your team members each of which has their own occult powers, which are cool to use, but alas the game doesn't allow too many options in passing the levels exploiting these special abilities. It's too much of "don't think, shoot!".
The game is fun and enjoyable if you like FPS an horror, but I gave it 4 stars for its lack of allowed manouvers in getting through the levels. |

Good value

I know this game has got some bad reviews but for the price it is really good fun. It shouldn't take you long to complete though. The action is fast and the witch powers are pretty good fun. I would recommend it for a tenner! |

Not as bad as I was expecting

At less than full-price, this could be a lot worse.
Undeniably, the game is very linear. The dreaded invisible walls, last seen in Call of Duty 4, are back and they've got lots of friends. At maximum detail, the graphics engine in this game is stunningly good looking (or revolting, depending on what it's displaying), and terrifically atmospheric. This makes the linearity all the more of a shame, since there's nowhere to go or explore in all the scenery (and some of it simply is scenery; you can look, but you'll never be able to get there and it's all for show.). The in-game audio is also extremely good, unsually worth a mention - orchestral music and high-quality sound effects add very nicely to the tension.
The check-point save system does add to the game's difficulty in places, and can be a little frustrating, but I found "hard" difficulty to be about right. The "survival events" can be quite difficult (you have to hit the directional buttons in a tightly-timed sequence), but, some of them really do add to the story (e.g. you'll perform an exorcism in one of them). The variety of abilities offered by being able to switch around the squad is good, although there's always the temptation to pick a favourite and stick with them. However, since the game will occasionally force you to use one character, you do need to acquire some flexibility by playing with all of them at some point or you'll find certain sections unduly difficult.
The real star of the show is the storyline, however, which is actually pretty adult and and compelling. If you unlock the extras (e.g. get 50 headshots on "hard", or blow up 250 enemies etc.), you get extra little bits of exposition which really add to the story. The exposition of the story as you play is extremely good, although without giving anything away, I would have to say the ending is extremely poor, and the game as whole is not very long.
If you have a decent-spec PC, and a little cash (but not full-price money) burning a hole in your pocket, this is just about worth playing through to get the story. |

Very poor FPS

I've played this for about an hour and left it, buy crysis or bioshock if you want some fun. There are too many story scenes that you can't escape past and each section has to be downloaded seperately so every 10 mins you have to wait 30 secs for the next section to download all in all i was bored with downloads and cut scenes in a short space of time and shelved the game. |

When i looked on amazon to check out Clive Barkers : Jericho i was absolutesly shocked to see the reviews people have made about the game. I have played the PC version for a while now and has kept me hooked non stop. It has super nice graphics, nice animation for the blood and gore, nice new original system of gaming (climbing) and whats more the powers your team have are AWESOME. real diversity and every one comes in useful at some stage.
This is one of my favourite games at the moment and im so spurised to see how many people gave it one star. The atmosphere is very nice with chilling horror with action to go with it. very nice game. the only flaw is as a few people have mentions the lack of jump action which restricts movement and freedom. BUY this game on PC it WILL blow you away. |
