The Italian Job (PC)
|
|
|
| Description:
Based on the cult 1969 caper flick of the same name, The Italian Job follows the fortunes of an ambitious gang of thieves led by Michael Caine's near-legendary Charlie Croker. These loveable rogues are on a mission to snatch millions of pounds worth of gold bullion, using little more than some explosives, Benny Hill, and three patriotically coloured Minis. The various stages of Driver-inspired racing action loosely follow the plot of the film as Croker brings together his dream team of dodgy geezers and sets the stage for the most audacious crime of the century. Swinging London Town is the setting for The Italian Job's first chapter, and here you'll get used to driving some of the game's different vehicles. These include swish 60s sports cars, limos, vans and, of course, those famous Minis. Most missions involve getting to a certain location before the time runs out, with the added complication of having to ditch any coppers that have given chase. As the story progresses you'll visit Turin and ultimately the Alps as Croker's gang attempt to make their getaway via a bullion-stuffed coach. The Italian Job captures the spirit of the film well, with a voiceover from none other than celebrity Michael Caine-impersonator Phil Cornwell. The graphics, look great on the PC and have greatly improved from the PSone version and the jolly soundtrack complements the action rather nicely. However, while dedicated fans of the film will love the obvious care and attention that has gone into this adaptation, other gamers may be a little disappointed by the shallow gameplay and lack of levels. While the sub-games that involve racing to checkpoints or running over traffic cones provide some extra value for money, ultimately there's little here that hasn't already been featured in other driving games.--Tim Cant

The Italian job game is a brilliant driving game, with lots of cars to drive and freeride level has Turin and London. FAULTS: American voiced public. Police disappear from game when you lose them. At certain speeds you can drive through trees E.T.C. Public run away from youwhen you drive at 20 miles an hour. Police chase you at 30 miles an hour.GOOD STUFF: Good graphics. From cool cars to old bangers. Large freeride areas. Music is good quality. Each vehicle has its own max. speed and steering sensitivity. Get it second hand if possible, very fun to play levels are fairly easy and get harder. |

A Classic!
(February 28, 2004) |

OK so its not a cutting edge video game compared to some that are on offer, but at the price it is excellent value for money. Worth buying just for the Michael Caine impersonation alone! Very playable, although the graphics are a little bland by todays standards. 16 missions across 3 locations in a variety of vehicles from the infamous Mini's to Big Williams coach and two difficulty levels. Hours of fun for all the family! Highly recommended as good clean family fun. |

just like the film
(December 21, 2003) |

If you've seen the film you will know what to expect. The more stages you complete the better the cars you can have for all the add on bits. It's very tongue in cheek, good for a laugh, with voice over by a Michael Caine sound alike. It kept my kids (23-7) busy for weeks. The getaway is truly amazing - so you'll need to practise the stunts etc. Enjoy. |

BEST GAME EVER!
(September 23, 2003) |

I think this is a great game!!! There are tons of different modes from knocking over cones to driving the COACH through Lodnon with dynamite!!! You can spend hours on the Free Ride levels where you can drive around London and Turin in a mini, coach, Mafia car and plenty more!!! Even though it dosen't re-create london in great detail it has things like BIG BEN and KINGS CROSS. It is a really great game and makes you feel like wathching the movie over again and notice the things that are the same!!!! |
