Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (PC CD)
|
|
|
| Description:
Each Harry Potter game plays to the format's strengths and has different elements in the gameplay; the PC version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is no different. It follows the Jr wizard's first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the focus is on the puzzle aspects of the game. The action begins in Diagon alley with our hero purchasing the supplies he needs to attend school, from then on it follows the storyline in the book pretty faithfully. Each level of the game concentrates on a different aspect of the story: attending classes (such as charms, herbology, defence against the dark arts, potions with the evil Snape); visiting Hagrid; having to collect Bertie Botts beans so that Fred & George Weasley will give you Wizard's cards which you need to beat He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named; win points for your house and, of course, learn and play Quidditch. The graphics look pretty good, but the real winner is the sound, the music is just perfect and the eerie sound effects makes you believe that you really are at Hogwarts School. The only criticism is that the game is very short and even younger kids will complete it relatively quickly. If you are a Harry P fan then you won't be disappointed, if you are looking for a challenging game action adventure game then you might want to look elsewhere. --Jenny Fisher

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (PC CD)
Okay. Nice game. Graphics are okay, but I bit blocky and unrealistic. I thought that this game was a little hard for younger players (like my cousin) to deal with.
Some of the levels were a bit challenging: sneaking part filtch and Mrs. Norris wearing the invisible cloak, and choosing the right potion near the end of the game (got progressively faster and faster, making my eyes go funny lol). I also didn't 'get' how to defeat Voldemort, which led me to be beaten by him several times before I won. I thought that was frustrating.
The game, in my opinion, ran a little sloooowly and you couldn't skip cutsecenes (which was rather annoying) and so I had to turn my sound off to stop me hearing the same cutscene with the troll over and over again. lol. It got boring fast.
Okay. But nothing brilliant. I prefer the second one much more over this.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone PC CD-ROM Review
(May 20, 2007) |
|
The PC game incorporates a lot from the playsatation game of the same title and a lot from the book that wasn't included in the movie. For example, in the game, you get to dispell Peaves, where as in the film the character is never even mentioned. This makes the game very well adapted because it is one of the few out there that tries to stay very closely acquitted to the book itself. The gameplay is fair and very fun. You mostly follow the on-screen challenges as you learn new spells in the various lessons you attend including charms and defense against the dark arts. Primarily, you act as Harry, exploring the castle when you get the chance and following the storyline from said book. It's pretty easy to master the controls. Along your journeys, you get to learn new spells, collect Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans (which can be found around the castle in chests, cauldrons, suits of armours and on the floor directly), play Quidditch, duel against Lucius Malfoy and collect Witches and Wizards cards among other things hidden in the game. At the end of the game, if you have collected all said Witches and wizards cards, you get a special reward. I presume this is the 'Harry Potter' card that is stated in many faqs and guides I''ve read. The good thing about the game is that it's quite easy to get into andit gets you wanting to stay with it till the end, much like the book in that fashion. The graphics aren't exactly the best around, but for the time the game was made in, that can be expected. Though the storyline and adaptability more than makes up for it truthfully! It is a must have for any Harry Potter fan and a great game whatever your genre preference.

I think the gane is a real winner, the graphics are NOT amazing but still very fun, simple but fun.The Game lasts about four days (for beginners) But the good thing about this game is that it lasts forever (unless you are like me who doesn't have it anymore) with good quidditch,AND, spell challenges plus all the fights is an epic, combined together! MUST HAV |
