Great idea for a game but too darn hard!
(July 10, 2008) |

I snapped this game up as soon as it was released as i thought the concept was ace! use my stylus to cut people open and perform operations!! how cool!. Sadly it was just too hard!! i did the first couple of 'levels' and got into it and then they just became stupid hard! for that reason it was traded in quick smart. So hence i have marked the fun level down because it wasnt fun after a while it was just frustrating!. Shame as the story line seemed ok and its a great idea for a different sort of game. I think kids would really struggle with this one. |

Hard, but good clean fun

This game is really enjoyable and highly addictive. Despite the fact that I've been stuck on one of the later levels for ages now, I still keep trying just for the sheer fun of it. It is so rewarding to finally complete an operation you've been stuck on a while that I just seem to keep plodding away!
You do have to be quite accurate with the stylus at times, but this all adds to the fun of the game - I'd moan if it was dead simple!
Now I've worked out what to press to skip the annoying repetitive dialogue (it does play most of it again every time you retry a level), I'm much happier! |

Disappointing

I first saw this game online and thought i would really enjoy it. The first few operations are fun but then it starts to get a bit unbelievable and quite frankly, tedious!
Some of the operations are rather difficult as it is but you also have a silly nurse that keeps interrupting you.
If you're expecting a lifelike game with real illnesses then you'll be disappointed. |

Initial enjoyment quickly replaced by utter frustration.

This game has a lot going for it. it's perfectly suited to the DS. The graphics are simple but cute, the sound not so agonising that you need to turn it down all the time like on some other DS titles. The music in the surgery complements the mood and 'drama' of the operation.
You are always under pressure during the game. You could be half-way through an operation feeling good about remembering the right procedure for removing a tumour when suddenly the music goes into panic mode and the cute nurse squeaks "Doctor!" You already know from the look on her face that something has gone terribly wrong with the operation. You now have LOADS of bulging tumours (or whatever) to remove using your stylus. This means you have to stop the patient from flat-lining by boosting him with green...'stuff' while doing several fiddly procecedures on the DS's tiny screen before the time runs out. The problem I found is that its just too difficult and the only satisfaction comes from the sheer relief of getting through an operation which, more often than not, will need more than one or two attempts.
Overall, this game requires lots of commitment and dexterity, not to mention patience as it can become very frustrating. I tried to like this game, but after a year of trying to like it I realised playing it was just too much of a chore. But thats just me.

Short-lived
(June 24, 2007) |

At first, I thought that I was buying a game where you played the cool doctor who all the girls fancied who had just come out of med school, and was a really good surgeon. I thought that the game would consist of everyday procedures that reflected real life surgory. I was mistaken. Don't get me wrong, the first few operations were really fun and I thought that I was onto a winner, but as the game progressed, I realised how silly it was. Basically you play an idiotic 'doctor' who is constantly trying to prove himself in the hospital. It's clichéd all over; the characters are Japanese manga yet typically American Pokémon style aminations. Instead of deciding the storyline, all the decisions are made for you: its like reading a really crappy book. Second of all, when operating in tense situations, you are constantly interrupted by your annoying nurse on the top screen and you can't continue until you have skipped the dialogue. This is especially annoying in replay mode when you know what you are doing. You really can't take it seriously, for a start that disease that you have to treat is called GUILT. At this point all credibility of the game is lost; you feel like you are no longer operating on people, you're simply just zapping little dragon-monster creatures swimming around and rubbing strange green goo on the patient to heal him/her. Not to mention the fact that you have to defuse a bomb with your surgical equipment. Its just abit silly.
The most difficult aspect of the game was restraining yourself from throwing the DS across the room. I would definitely not buy this game and I plan to return my copy as soon as possoble. |
