The most overhyped game on N64?

I can remember when this game first came out, it was hyped to outrageous level and gained stunning reviews from all the Nintendo Mags. And it WAS impressive at the time.
But looking back now, it's plain to see that this game didn't deserve the hype it got.
The graphics are great to start with - very detailed, nice set-pieces, monsters, etc. - and all is well until you meet an enemy for the first time... the game engine judders to an almost complete halt! The slowdown is so severe it's quite laughable, and using the hi-res mode with the expansion pak makes things even worse. This is game effecting slowdown, you struggle to shoot the enemies even when they are one foot in front of you! Not a good thing when the whole game is based around shooting monsters!
Add to the slowdown the absurdly huge maze-like maps that are almost impossible to complete without a guide/great memory or an inhuman level of patience, and you've got a game that struggles to break out of ever becoming more than extremely tedious and frustrating.
Worth buying if it's cheap just for nostalgia purposes.
Both Turok and Turok 3: Shadow Of Oblivion are miles better than this! |

Yeah hes back and he dont look happy......

Oh yeah, Turok is back, and hes a bit angry at them dinosaurs for draggin' him out of bed. So with a great array of weapons, and superb enemies over 6 worlds with absoloutly HUGE maps, your gonna have to have a great memory to navigate your way around, completing objectives given to you by the very well endoweled girl, cant remember her name? ermm.....well anyway the weapons get better and better and better all through the game, with things around every corner to keep you on your toes, or your back if your too slow. In particular one weapon sticks in my mind, a disc called Razor Wind, bit like the disc from predator two, throw and forget really, lob it, watch the enemy flail his remaining limbs around as blood pours everywhere, then see it fly back to you like a hungry puppy dog. This game kick some serious tail, if you have a N64 and dont have turok2 hang your head in shame... BTW if you like blood and guts, then this game is for you lots of gore. Oh and getting bored of running around and getting zapped, type in BEWAREOBLIVIONISATHAND in the cheat entry screen without anyspaces (all one word) to access all cheats, including all weapons so you can get yourt hands on a meaty peice of nuke technology. If you use the cheat try useing the infinate lives option only first as not to ruin the challenge that is the game. |

Follow on from one its not bad theres also number 3 when you have finished this one!!
A good shoot um up and very bloody with some good monsters and hard to kill enimies,brain power to be used a little bit but you dont have to be a scientist... |
