Excitebike 64 (N64)
|
|
|
| Description:
Who said the N64 doesn't have any decent racing games? Excitebike 64 is without doubt the best motorbike game ever made and one of the very best racers of any kind on any system. Rounding out the holy trilogy of extreme sports titles for the N64--started by Wave Race 64 and 1080° Snowboarding--this is perhaps the best of the lot. Excitebike 64 is actually a motocross simulator, which for the uninitiated means that instead of driving around boring circuit tracks grazing your knees you get to drive up mountains and across sand dunes, thereby putting considerably more body parts at risk and having a lot more fun while you're at it. The courses alternate between interior tracks and some truly impressive outdoor ones. But if you don't like any of that you could always create your own using the track editor. The game also contains some excellent bonus courses for you to unlock including a randomly generated desert race, a Tony Hawk's-esque stunt course, two versions of the original NES version of Excitebike and a game of motorbike football. With all that plus one of the best multiplayer modes ever, this is yet another N64 must-have. --David Jenkins

EXCITEBIKE 64
(January 22, 2002) |

It's quite ironic how several of games of this genre come along, particular on the playstation, and turn out to be rubbish. But as soon as Nintendo release one, it simply blows away the opposition.Excitebike 64 is with out a doubt the best motocross sim ever. On any format. Set over a number of indoor, cross-country, treterious desert terrain, and many other heavily demanding forms of tracks(heck, you even get to ride through a construction yard)you begin on the Novice season and gradually build yourself up so you can compete on the professional tour. And this is where this game comes into it's own- when I say "gradually building yourself up" I really mean it. To say this game is as hard as nails is an understatement. You see, it's not just a racing game. Not only do you have to out-pace your rivals, but learning how to overcome the courses "hazards" is essential. You got to time your jumps over the "bumps" to perfection or else you'll get bogged down, losing valuble time. When your in mid-air you gotta position the rider so that he/she narrows the angle and straightens out the following corner to gain time. And thanks to the intuitive control system, it results in a sublime and absolutly brillant game. While the indoor tracks are rather basic looking, the set of outdoor ones look spectacular, with georgeous and well detailed scenery. (Although in somes cases the backdrops are pre-rendered but are still the part). In true Nintendo style you get all the trimmings, like stuntcoure's, hillclimbs and even a chance to play the origial Excitebike. Add this to a pretty solid multiplayer game and a wealth of hidden extra's, there is a enough here to persuade any N64 owner not to part with their machine for a little while yet. |

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC
(October 19, 2001) |

Excitebike 64 is (sadly) probably the last great racing game for the Nintendo 64. The game is superb. The handling is awesome. The gameplay is brilliant and the desert race in the special tracks section is a brilliant adrenaline pumping experience. If you're thinking of buying this game then go out and get it tomorrow it is AWESOME. I would recommend this game to everyone who owns an N64. (For those that dont own an N64 then thats your loss!!) P.S - roll on Gamecube. All you PS2 owners go and weep! |

this game is more evel knievel than eddie kidd.

Even though we have been made to wait for this game in the UK, it was worth it. This game is the bee-knees, with great graphics which add depth to tracks, especially the out door ones. which brings us to the track designs, which are spot on, with short cuts and plenty of evel knievel style jumps over canyons and buildings. The gameplay is also very fair, in that the other drivers also make mistakes. and unlike some other games the same rider doesn't keep winning which makes it difficult to win. also each time you play you get a little better or learn a new route so always improve your scores or times and unlock the new tracks. The level of control of the bike is up there with wave race & 1080 snowboarding, so you know any success is not down to luck but also any mistakes are your fault and not any dodgy collision detection. with the imaginative tracks, track editor, quality competition from the other riders...this is a game which would never become boring. |

The Best Motorbike game ever
(June 13, 2001) |

I've had this for ages (import, PAL) and I am still playing it now. It drags you back for more. Have no fear when buying this game. It is the definitive motocross game and makes all other bike games (on any platform) look a bit lame. |

The best racing game on 2 wheels!
(January 05, 2001) |

It's by Nintendo, so it's got to be good. And it is. Excitebike 64 is brilliant fun. The Graphics are amazing, the speed is the fastest I have seen, and it amazingly addictive. You just HAVE to have one last go at that last race. All in all, the best racing game on two wheels available. |
