A terrible disgrace to the WWE & THQ
(September 15, 2008) |
|
I've been playing wrestling games since the NES, WWF Steel Cage Match, WWF Raw (Snes) to No Mercy and Fire Pro Wrestling, so I feel that I'm well qualified to claim I know wrestling games backwards and forwards. Therefore when I say that this is possibly the worst wrestling game I've ever played, the gravity of the statement will not be lost.
Graphics
The game looks awful, the graphics look all wrong, even No Mercy looked better than this, something just seems wrong and the animation is a joke. The game plays far to fast and can't even pass as a cartoon style of visuals and to make matters worse your created superstar looks nothing like the in game roster, to the extend that it seems out of place.
Game-play
The game play is fast and frantic, however unlike the early Smackdown series the arcade style game-play fails, no matter what you do to your opponent they don't stay down and don't even slow down even if you throw them off of the hell in a cell. The controls feel broken, even with a very limited choice of moves it's hard to pull them off, even if you push the control stick and hit the A-button at the same time. After two of three matches the game feels boring and stale.
Features
There is a large choice of matches, hell in a cell, tables, cage, ladder, but no real career mode to speak off, only a short series of matches and then the title. After playing through these once each to unlock a character, there's no point, no interest, it just becomes pointless. The battle of the belts is a good idea, but with these game-play problems it's pointless. The matches are terrible to play, this game has made hell in a cell boring, I never thought that possible.
Multi-Player
Rubbish, the controls, lack of an entertaining game-play engine and modes which are terrible.
Overall I recommend you get No Mercy (N64), Fire Pro Wrestling (GBA) or the best gamecube wrestler Day Of Reckoning, which is the closest to a modern No Mercy. Just don't play this game, even if it only costs you a £1, you'll feel ripped off, I felt that like.

NO-NO-NO

Do not buy this game! It is utter rubbish. First of... Theres is NO story mode. Second; U can battle for belts. That is somewhat fun, but... The last match u battle is supposed to be the hardest, right? WRONG! After winning an 4-man ladder match, its no fun in winning the belt in a single match! The create a wrestler is also rubbish. U can't choose eyes, mouth or anything. U pick a face and thats it. And while playing never taunt. If you taunt, you gain nothing. The graphics are poor. Chris Benoit walks as if he has pooed his pants. No....... Please do not buy this game. U can get better games. Try No Mercy(N64) Or wwe: Day of reckoning (NGC). Walk on |

Surprisingly not too bad.

I avoided this like the plague when it was first released, due to the terrible reviews it got. However when i saw it on special offer for £2.97 (yes, really!) I couldn't resist. surprisingly, it's not too bad. Graphics are reasonable, apart from the strange use of 2-D sprites for the weapons (chairs/fire extinguishers). Sound - each fighter has his own entrance song, and these are all good; but you only get to hear 10-15 seconds of this, as the fighter enters the ring; while the actal fight is going on, there are only two possible songs, and both of these sound like SNES-style midi. Gameplay - it's actually a lot of fun to play, I don't know why but it is. One bad point is that the ladder and table matches are almost impossible to win. Lifespan - I didn't expect this game to last vrey long, but I am still playing it, 3 months after i bought t. Overall, a decent enough game - buy it if you can get it cheaply on special offer or second hand, I wouldn't pay over £15 for it. |

Choose your rating...

Do you own 4 control pads and know 4 people who love wrestling games? Go with my 4 star rating.. Do you have no friends or only have the one pad? Knock off 2 stars.. This is, in my opinion, one of the best multiplayer wrestling games going at the moment just because of the blocking system. It requires you to guess whether your opponent is going to hit you with a grapple move or a striking move. When all four of you have a special move built up, things get even tactical as you have to decide whether your opponent is going to hit you with a special, or bluff and pull a regular move...It's this that makes multiplayer genius.. However, single player is far too limited. The battle for the belts mode is relatively unentertaining and you'll only play it to get more CAW points...and the CAW mode IS poor..The graphics are decent although not on par with WWE Raw, the gameplay is fluid but the AI is very predictable even on the Painful difficulty setting. However, get a few mates round, begin a fatal four way and you WILL have a blast! |

This is a game where you can get in any situation you want if there is a wrestler not in this game you create him/her the only part that seems hard to me is winning the roaly rumbel the best I won is 11 man roaly rumbel but that's a challang and it's good There are no good cheats for this game (not that I would use them) THE END P.S. The Hardy Boyz rock P.P.S. And Lita |
