Legends Of Wrestling
| Description:
When Acclaim lost the extremely lucrative rights to produce the official WWF game, they invested in the WCW licence--which promptly went bankrupt. Without another recognisable federation to back, they produced a game featuring ex-wrestling stars. Legends of Wrestling's presentation lacks the polished sheen of WWF SmackDown. Character selection and in-between bout screens are basic and static affairs. This lack of polish is highlighted by the pre-bout introductions, where the wrestlers high-five non-existent crowd members on the way down to the ring; here they inexplicably pause until the next loading sequence kicks in. Once you get into the ring, though, the game has a much more solid feel. But it comes at a price: the slow-paced action. Plus, the computer AI can be poor as it often ignores chances to finish off defenceless opponents. Despite this, there is enjoyment to be had. Fights with three or four wrestlers are fun but as with most games of this genre, multiplayer is where this game takes off; it supports up to five players (yes, you can be the referee). A simple career mode and unlockable wrestlers add to the package along with the simple joy of smashing chairs over your opponents' heads. Legends of Wrestling does push the genre in the right direction with interesting additions such as a counter gauge which enables you to evade attacks with a well timed button press. If you're not put off by its slow nature and basic look, it's an enjoyable alternative to SmackDown.--Jonathan Winter

A Pretty Poor Game
(May 26, 2004) |
I bought this game when I was on holiday. I read the book everyday because I was so excited about playing it and I didn't have my PS2 with me. I started playing on it the morning after I got home. I thought it was going to be as good as the Smackdown! series but was shocked to find out that this game was actually pretty poor. GAMEPLAY To start off with the match setup is easy to follow and picking your wrestler is also very easy. But after this stage it is fairly poor. The superstars entrances do not have the proper music and the superstars don't really taunt either, they just wave their hands. The in game controls are very similar to those in the smackdown series but are so much slower. The move are too slow, but their is one good point here. Nearly all of the move can be extended so you can put together a string of fairly good moves. GAMEPLAY: ** GRAPHICS The graphics to this game are very good. They are nice and smooth and there are not many faults where wrestlers go through walls etc. But there is one downfall to the graphics; the wrestlers movements. The wrestlers are all very stiff and move very freely, when picking somebody up they are more like a twig than somebody who's just been powerbombed. GRAPHICS: **** SOUND The sound in this game is not good at all. The wrestlers don't enter to their real theme tunes and all of the wrestlers sound the same. Although when the wrestlers hit the mat it sounds realistic. SOUND: *** LIFESPAN There are five different areas to conquer then the whole country. This will keep you going for a while but not too long. LIFESPAN: ** Overall I think that game is a fairly poor game, although it does have it's good points. I think it's probably at least worth renting and maybe buying if you really like it but I wouldn't really recommend it. |

THIS GAME ISN'T WORTH 50p!!!!!
(January 10, 2004) |
Ok, let me get this straight i would have awarded this game 0 but thats not possible and badly, because this is without a doubt the absolute worst game for the gamecube i mean come on! legends of wrestling 2 was slightly better with the 'real legends' like 'Andre the Giant' but still Wrestlemania 18 and 19 were great wrestling games (especially 19), they included all that wrestling fans wanted and 2 player was fantastic, but legends of wrestling is a boring game after the first match. And if you think well, i guess ill make the game more fun with a created wrestler you were horrifyingly dissapointed, as there is practically no leverage for different characters. there arent enough costumes, hair styles, colours, BLAH BLAH etc. i wont spend anymore time badmouthing this game because it just isnt worth the £5 that i paid for it and that is PATHETIC!!!! |

Legends Of Wrestling Disappointment
(June 29, 2002) |
This game had the potential to be a great wrestling game, but it turned out to be a disapointment. There aren't enough matches to do, no backstage brawling, all the wrestlers look like plastic figures and the creata wrestler feature is rubbish because you can only choose ONE face, not enough hair styles, a selection of a few colours without tints and shades, no text and not enough costumes. One of the main things that I don't like about the game that it isn't authentic in the way of proper official entrance themes, commentry and wrestlers actions e.g. The Million Dollar Man going on about money. Another thing that I hate about the game is the lack of moves when creating a wrestler i.e. when you chose the "Head between legs" position you can only pick mainly piledrivers and powerbombs. On the gameplay itself it can be fun for a short time. A proper tag-team tournament where 2 players can go for the titles is needed. A proper realistic 30-man Royal Rumble mode where you can ONLY be eliminated by going over the top rope not underneath it would be ace. I think that most people will ONLY win the main championship title and maybe the tag titles then be totally sick of the game. |

legends of wrestling review
(May 09, 2002) |
legends of wrestling is one of my favourite games. The wrestlers are great like hollywood hulk hogan and RVD plus lots of other great legends. But there are two things I dont like about it and that is the selection of matches and the graphics.there is only a couple of matches like single and tag team. The other problem is the poor graphics and I think they could have made it better. But it has a great create a legend mode where you can design your own legend and if you want you can name it after yourself. It also has a career mode where you can guide your legend to the top and win the championship belt.I've got this game and my favourite thing is smashing the ref over the head with a guitar.well thats all the time i've got just now.see you later. |
