Superb game, but not quite tennis
(July 30, 2003) |

Virtua Tennis 2 vastly improves upon the original with much better graphics (I was reminded of this when I had to revert back to the original for a while after mis-placing my VT2 disc, a option for a sliced shot, a more realistic lop shot, and generally more fluid animation. The obvious new feature is the addition of the female players, so this is great for females as well as males in that they can choose whatever sex they want to play as-not meaning to sound that females should only be restricted to females and vice versa. There's the World Challenge tour, which is like a "campaign" in any other game, with no time limit. You design your player, height, skin, face, hair, etc and enter competitions. In an attempt to mimic real life, you have a world ranking, and you need to improve this by playing in competitions(however, your ranking only goes up once the first time you win a particular one), which will open harder and harder competitions. There are training games which will improve your statistics, such as volleying, serve power, running speed and they translate into a player that actually does what you want him/her to do in the game. Then there's the "arcade" mode, which is suprisingly, just like at the arcades. You progress through a series of matches, on different surfaces until you win-not too complicated. Then there is exhibition-pick the players and the court and get serving. Oh yes, and with your (virtual) winnings from the World Tour, you can buy (unlock) extras, such as different courts around the world (around 20 I think) and clothes for your player, which you can also play in the exhibition mode.....so bring your VMU to your friends and battle it out. Unfortuneately, options such as changing the clothing for the regular players seems to have been taken out, or maybe it gets unlocked after I win the tour? I dunno, havent got to number 1 yet;) Also, owners of VT will be aware of King, well his partner Queen is in VT2, and you get to play doubles against them to get top spot:) Overall, a good solid game, great fun. |

Better than the Original

If you haven't played the original, then, shame on you. Virtua Tennis 2 is the sequal to the former best tennis game in the world, this game now taking that crown. The game of tennis does not need to be explained to, but if youve never played videogames or tennis before, this game is simple enough to get you started. With easy, fluid controls, even my dad has been able to play this sports title fairly easily, and its thanks to Sega creating only 2 buttons to allow your player to hit the ball. This may sound simple, and it is, but the more you play, the controls allow you to improve, and the game carries much depth with it, so you can with skillful buttons presses, have more than 2 shots in your arsenal. With amazing graphics that equal that of the playstation2, you wont get bored of looking at this. In fact, you wont get bored looking at it at all, with the new inclusion of female players, now allowing for mixed doubles tennis matches. If that wasnt enough for you, the world tour path of the game allows you to create and train your own player, turning him into the king of tennis with fun and entertaining mini-games that are much more difficult than they first seem. This game is also much faster than its predecessor, and shot types have been improved, for exmaple, a diving shot will see you get up much quicker in this game than in the first installment. Basically, if you don't already own this game, you should, and if you own the original, trade it in. I kept both, but, thats me. |

Wow

OK - you may have guessed i like this game. I love tennis so ive been looking around for the best tennis game and most realistic. I previously owned a PS1 and had Anna Kournikova Smash Court Tennis which i thought woz amazin. Dont get me wrong it is - and really playable but where Virtua Tennis wins over every sports game (YES INCLUDING FOOTBALL GAMES) is that the makers have put every effort into getting the different players personalities and actions into the game. If you like tennis youll probably see the ever so slightly different service actions of people like Pat Rafter and lindsay Davenport. Even the way Tim Henman hits his fore hand shots are just like the real thing. Anyway heres me blabbin on and I forgot to mention the graphics................... AMAZIN! Nuff sed. |

Super Tennis! One of the Dreamcast's last hurrahs. It's rare that a follow up version of a great game is still worth buying, but here there is such a case. Everything has improved - from technical features to matters of gameplay. There are not only male players, but female stars as well. Or create your own superstar. Many gimmicks are to be found. The gameplay is almost perfect. Not only a great DC game, but also the best tennis game there is on a console. |

Bigger and better its virtua tennis 2
(August 18, 2001) |

This time around its has female players along with the usual men some still remain from the last outing. With more modes and a bigger career mode it looks like a more accomplished game The moves are also better with a more improved diving and better shot angles. If you played the first you will remember how slow you recovered from a dive shot.Well theyve also made that faster so you wont get up and see the ball whizz past and your player. You have to buy this game its the closest youll get to a tennis court in this weather. |
