Phantasy Star Online Version 2
(July 11, 2002) |

I must admit to being a big fan of the original PSO, but this is just cheeky. who (or what) do SEGA think we are? [this] is basically an expansion pack!! admittedly you don't have to have the original, but if you have, it's really not worth forking out the dosh for this mediocre upgrade. So the controls have been tweaked slightly, as have the visuals, but it's still exactly the same game - albiet a few changes to the general gameplay. If you've got the original, definitely leave this well alone, unless your a die-hard fan. if your a first timer, however, there's plenty of reason for you to give this a go - but plenty of reasons not to as well. |

A Phantastic Game
(April 09, 2002) |

Phantasy Star Online Version 2 is definitely not a sequel, it’s an update but it has great new features! Dream Arena 3 comes with it, which allows you to use any ISP to play online so if you are already paying for a good ISP then it’s virtually free to play online! The ultimate mode, battle mode and challenge mode gives a much greater challenge and many more hours of gameplay and the good thing is you don’t have to worry about losing any items on challenge and battle! You can finally feel equality playing all at the same level with set weapons on challenge mode! I wouldn’t have thought it, but the battle mode works incredibly well (although I’m a failure at it)! Also, I have to mention how great the spaceship battle music is, Tricktrack! Despite the fantastic new modes, since the 2nd version has everything the first version has and a bit more, it’s almost not worth the money, but if you’ve anticipated its arrival like me or you haven’t played the first version and want to play it from the beginning with all the new features, you’ve got to get it! |

Excellant!!

Being a BIG fan of the original Phantasy Star Online, I was over the moon when I heard about the second version. I bought it the moment it came out, and I wasn't disappointed! The ability to get to Lv.200 is incredible, and the new Ultimate difficulty level is indeed a challange! I haven't yet encountered the new Ver.2 rare items as yet, but I have indeed heard a lot about them. Conclusively, I would like to say that this game won't convert PSO haters, but if you are a fan, it is well worth your money! |

More juicy goodness from the loins of Sega!
(March 21, 2002) |

Well what can I say, jobs a good'un. PSO was for me a classic game, I logged up 200 hours of play-time with just one character (Entropy, hunter dressed in black with purple hair and has a habit of saying "Your ass is grass... ...and I'm the lawnmower!" if anyone reading this finds me online) and enjoyed every minute of it. But now we have version 2 which has injected a new lease of life into this game, sort of. The updates are nice, new monsters, new items, new weapons (bunch of flowers and a games mag?!?!), new online play modes which have new levels. But... there have been too many PK'ers, weapon thieves and item dupes in the past which has now resulted in people not trusting each other and lots and lots of locked games online. This is sad and not what PSO should be about. Sega have tried their best but where there's a will, there's a way and people like to be complete to$$ers and cheat and generally be idiots. Still, find some people that are fun, friendly and trustworthy and this game is excellent!!! It's just a shame that most people would have owned this game a long time before anyone buying the UK version, I found playing on-line was like being a level 1 character again... nice! |

Cracking Game
(December 13, 2001) |

New modes increase the longevity of an already evolutionary game. The online playability can rack up one hell of a phone bill, and you can find that the total amount of hours that you would have played this game, upon completion, will be somewhere around a week. Which makes the game worthy of any console. The graphics are excellent, the controls are intuitive and well thought out, as with the original. The new modes are fun, but are they really worth it if you have the original? For die-hard PSO (Phantasy Star Online) enthuasiasts then this is a must-have, but for the rest then this is just new shoes on old feet. How far can this game walk on its new shoes? |
