Fighting Vipers 2
|
|
|
| Description:
Fighting Vipers 2 is a classic beat-'em-up that unfortunately doesn't really have much new to offer the genre, unless you really like characters wielding bicycles, skateboards and fluffy teddy bears. As you would expect with any fighting game, there is the usual choice of options to play with, and whether you head for the arcade version or merely the training room you can't help but think that you've seen it all before--and unfortunately you probably have. The trouble with the fighting genre is that there are so many games that it's a struggle to fine new ideas. This is a good example of that; Fighting Vipers 2 pales in significance to games such as Dead or Alive 2 and Soul Calibur. If you are keen to get a fighting game for the Dreamcast, there are plenty of other options with more recognisable characters; having completed all of these, it would probably be best to go back to the classics. --Stuart Miles

Fighting Vipers 2
(January 12, 2002) |
|
After success in the arcades and Sega's Saturn console, the Fighting Vipers, Sega's street-wise alternative to Virtua Fighter, decide to let rip their armour shattering action onto the Dreamcast. Unfortunately all doesn't go to plan, and the final result with this sequel isn't pleasing. Grraphically it's average, looking better than before but still feeling like a Saturn game. The action moves at a sedate pace, and the controls do the game no favours. It's fast paced playability, and inclusion of some really cool characters will no doubt interest veterens of the Saturn original, but compared with Virtua Fighter 3, Dead or Alive 2 and Soul Calibur, the DC has far better to offer than this dissapointing scrapper. |

Avoid this at all cost

Do not I repeat do not get this game, the graphics are dated there are no special moves as such just extra hard punchs and kicks and the game play is hideous. I played this on the saturn and at the time I really enjoyed it but the dreamcast port is basically a waste of space worst thing I've ever spent my money on.......Gave the game away, buy SNK vs Capcom instead. |

A Forgotten (but late) Classic.

When the dreamcast was first announced, I was looking forward to this game. I was a huge fan of the original on the Sega Saturn so I was desperate to play the sequel, so I was dissapointed when it never got released near the consoles launch. But my waiting has paid off now I have one of the most fun beat-em-ups I have ever played. The gameplay is very similer to the Virtua Fighter games only you fight in cages which you can use to inflict more pain on your opponents. The game is fun to play and some of the characters are excellent (BMX weilding Charlie is my favourite). The only thing wrong with it, is that its three years old now, and it shows. AM2 havent really put any real effort in the games conversion from arcade to dreamcast which is a shame, and there is no in-game moves list! And where is the dodge button? Its a pity this game didnt get released near the dreamcasts launch, maybe then it wouldnt look so dated. But for all its shortcomings, its still a entertaining, playable beat-em-up. |
