Silent Scope
|
|
|
| Description:
When Silent Scope hit the arcades a couple of years ago, the idea of just playing a sniper got a lot of people excited. After all, it had always been alluded to in the multiplayer games on the PC, but never really concentrated on. Since that success, no multiplayer game today dare be released without the sniper rifle included. To answer these cries from hungry gamers, Konami have finally turned their arcade game into one for the console. Now before you get excited, unfortunately it doesn't come with a sniper rifle--imagine the fun the Daily Mail would have with that one--but what it does offer is the snipers viewpoint just like in the arcade. For those unfamiliar with the darkest of dungeons; the arcade, and lets face it, that's most of us, Silent Scope is a pure sniper game. Playing the part of a rifleman in a police swat team, your tasks are to take down as many bad guys as possible in the limited time you have. The more bad guys you shoot the more time you get, take too much time and the game soon ends, but luckily this time that doesn't mean another £1 in the slot. The scenery varies from building rooftops to circling helicopters as you try and increase your accuracy and hit ratio. The controls, you will be pleased to know, are easier with the help of the joypad, although you can't but help wish that you really could play this with a sniper rifle to add to the realism of it all. If you have whittled away many an afternoon playing in the arcade while you should have been someplace else, this is definitely worth the investment; and for new players too this offers what everyone has been screaming for; a pure sniper game. --Stuart Miles

The Bomb!

Wow! What an amazing game Silent Scope is! I played it in the arcades and instantly fell in love with it! It is my favourite arcade game ever, and one of my favourite console games of all time. There is no huge plastic Snipers rifle for Dreamcast- But who cares!? It plays virtually just as well with the control pad trigger buttons and is certainly worth the 30 notes if you are keen shooter/sniper fan. Anyway, the graphics are super, like in the arcade and the game can get really tense in parts like the boss battles- but hey, when you do finally nail the terrorist leader cobra in the forehead, you dont half feel good!! One I will play definately a lot. 4/5 stars! |

Gameplay? we don't need no stinking gameplay

A) you're not a sniper, you're a marksman. B) you only have one variety of gun C) Anyone who has played comparable 'sniper' games on the PC will realise how bad the control system is D) Far too short E) Repetitive 'gameplay' F) Lame voiceovers G) Ridiculous storyline It's rubbish, please don't buy it. You might encourage them to make a sequel, and that would be tragic. Anybody who thinks this game is great deserves it. |

Too repetitive - too short

The whole premise behind silent scope in the arcade was that you used a light-gun to get you involved. Spend more than 10 minutes on the game and you were bored rigid. Well done Konami - a near perfect conversion (albeit without a light gun) - i was bored rigid after 10 minutes, and after only 1 hour i had completed the game. Just don't buy it. |

Silent Scope

I read the mixed reviews before purchasing. It's a good job we've all got different tastes. My view is brilliant. Yes it is a point and shoot, sounds easy, but in reality this is a very challenging game. Graphics are superb and the options of following different routes makes it so much more interesting. Training modes are fine, allowing practice for the finger nervous snipers, of which I am one! There are lots of 'bosses' to defeat and rescuing the President's Family is not so easy as it seems, especially with the clock ticking down. Don't be put off by the other reviews, rent it out, you'll be gripped! |

Kill 'em all! (But be quiet!)

Okay, yeah, yeah, yeaaahhh, there's no gun. So what, who cares? Silent Scope is the most ingenius shooting game ever made. i generally hate video games, but when forced to accompany my younger brother to the arcade in London, I put a coin in this arcade and have been hooked ever since. The DC is a fabulous conversion - I've already completed it - it's a bit tough, and yes, it does get samey - but then, popping the heads of terrorists from miles afar and without them knowing... well that does the trick for me. If you like shooting people (not the website, the act) then your sniper sweet tooth is satsified for a long while to come if you splash out a few quid on this game. |
