Deadly Skies (Dreamcast)
|
|
|
| Description:
There are two schools of thought when it comes to flight simulators. In one camp is the hardcore professionals that eat, live and drink the ultra real, ultra technical flight sim, and then, of course, the rest of us, who just want to fly planes, shoot bad guys and have fun in an arcade sort of way. The later can normally be found on the console, which for Deadly Skies, is pretty handy. Deadly Skies is your typical arcade fly sim. Playing a mercenary pilot in the Delta Squadron of the fictional Laconain Airforce, your missions vary from attacking other airborne targets as well as the odd base here and there. And with over 30 aircraft that you can buy with money earned from these missions the choice of aircraft can be important, as you fly through that ravine. Because the game as opted for the arcade model, the inclusion of airbrakes, flaps and all your basic controls that you normally have to worry about aren't present, making the gameplay very easy to pick up. If you are looking for a no-holds-barred arcade flight sim, then you've come to the right place, however, if you want that detail, that worrying about the air brakes, then it's going to have to be something on the PC. --Stuart Miles

The real flight sim freaks like a LOT more of a tekky game than this-but if you just want to fly a fighter jet, & shoot others down-perform aerial acrobatics,or even -yes-fly- under a low bridge! & just enjoy it! Then this is for you! the graphics are good, as is the selection of aircraft & camera angles. -Simple but effective. |

Deadly Skies!

I bourght this game thinking of a fast plane shooter, the game it's self is pretty good the graphics for dreamcast weren't bad and the missions are varried. There are loades of aircrafts to buy, one thing i noticed that was the cannon deosn't seem to do anything on any target there for the idea of using missiles gets repetive. The game is a goood contender for the dreamcast though. |

Finally, a decent console flight sim!

This game rules. I just got this the other week and I was a bit worried that it might not live up to my hopes- but it did, very well. Theres tons of planes to buy, and lots of missions to do, Ive still got loads left to do. The only thing missing is sampled speech - but I guess we can let it off coz the rest of the game is great. A word of advice for new players though - set the control type to expert before you play because the standard one is pants, and set the difficulty to normal - that should be about right so you dont go through the game too fast. |

Deadly? shouldn't that be boring skies

The fact is flight games are fun in the arcade because you only ever play them for about five minutes, a full game becomes too tedious for people like me. Alright the graphics are pretty and it is fun screaming FOX 1, FOX 2 (of course I don't do that,) but there is no long term appeal in this title for the casual DC player. Aerowings 2 offers more diversity and is the better title of the two but , as most of us DCer's are PC owners as well I would recommend the fantastic CRIMSON SKIES that offers all the dog fighting and luscious graphics you could ask for. |

Jump into the cockpit of a state of the art jet fighter and get ready to dogfight like never before. 30 different planes await you but nothing comes free and you'll need to earn money from some tough missions to buy more fighters. State of the art graphics and sound combine to make for a great arcade flight sim experience. Strap yourself in and get ready to rip through the sound barrier. This is one of the fastest, smoothest arcade flight sims to date. You've been contracted by mercenaries to gain control of the skies. For every successful hit you make, you'll get paid. Save up your cash and you'll be able buy over 30 different aircraft. Your missions include striking fortified ground targets, sinking battleships and aircraft carriers, skimming through canyons and even chasing down the infamous SR71 Blackbird. This spectacular game has super realistic sound effects, an accurate targeting system and superb atmospherics, all of which combine to make pulling g's a pant filling experience. |
