| Description:
Crash Bandicoot is a bargain basement Taz, a capering, rolling-eyed dingo-like creature. Over the few years before his PS2 debut, Crash Bandicoot: the Wrath of Cortex, he's appeared in various PSone titles--usually Mario wannabe platformers, but there've also been blatant Mario Party and Mario Kart rip-offs in the shapes of Crash Bash and Crash Team Racing. Never less than fun, yet never a realistic contender when compared against the genre-defining Mario 64, Crash has sometimes received a fairly rough ride from the press. With original developers Naughty Dog passing on the chance to produce a PS2 version, Travellers Tales have created this effort, and in terms of gameplay, there's no progression here whatsoever. This is Crash as we know and tolerate him, albeit with fancier lighting effects. All the familiar faces return, including (obviously, given the title) arch-goon Dr Cortex. And it's great, as it goes. Ignore the on-rails nature of the gameplay and the dismally slow loading times; it's unlikely you'll come across a jauntier, more ridiculous, stupid-brilliant game for some time. As well as the usual platform action, there are mine-cart chases á la Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom, hysterically playable Marble Madness-style levels, secrets, bonuses, vehicles, new moves; all kinds of everything, as Dana might have put it if she were into video games rather than winning the 1970 Eurovision Song Contest. Simple to pick up and play, crammed with outlandish ideas, colourful, loud and a laff riot into the bargain, it would be a hard heart that didn't warm to this old 'coot. --Steve Colton

Cute fun!

A nice next-gen (well, last gen by now, but never mind) update of the classic Crash Bandicoot series. This instalment is more of the same - cute, brightly coloured, harmless platforming fun. You can pick this game up very cheaply nowadays, and you can't really go wrong.
Pros: Fun for both children and adults, good graphics, large variety of levels.
Cons: Dodgy voice acting (though it is a cartoon I suppose), long loading times. |

This game is fantastic and is lots of fun! There are many new things such as characters and suits. But once again the Crash Bandicoot makers come back with a great platformer! You'll get alot out of it! That's all i can say really.... 10 out of 10! |

Have a Smash with Crash!

If you find you have a little extra room for another game in your PS2 library, then this might well be the thing to fill that space. This isn't just Video Game Cement though, it is a good game on it's own. The graphics are most impressive, and the idea of the game - that you have to destroy the 4 elementals coupled with your stronger clone, Crunch - is irresistable! The warp rooms are full of interesting and sometimes very challenging levels. Collecting all the Gems is difficult, and I took a long time on the Air Elemental.
Anything bad about this game?
Yes, but only minor things. I wish the enemies were a bit more reactive instead of just standing in your path, chucking a little grenade at you mechanically. But then again, that's what the enemies in Crash 1&2 do, and they're two of my 10 favourite games. I suppose I wanted something a little more different.
Anyway, moaning aside, this game should be treasured by any Crash fan. But I don't see the quirky marsupial as my ultimate video game character, but i still enjoyed the game very much.

Get Ready To Face The Wrath Crash Bandicoot!!

It's been a little while since I've done some more reviews, but it hasn't taken me as long as CTR: Crash Team Racing to complete Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex.
Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex is the first Crash Bandicoot game to be released onto a Sixth Generation Console. It has been released for the Playstation 2, and for the first time, it has been released for the Microsoft XBox and the Nintendo Gamecube!
Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex was also one of my Crash Bandicoot games I played that weren't made by the company Naughty Dog, whom originally made Crash Bandicoot games!
In this story, Uka-Uka called a meeting with Dr. Neo Cortex and his troops to make an ultimate plan to defeat Crash Bandicoot. Dr. Neo Cortex was creating a new weapon in hand, but needed power. Uka-Uka had an idea, which was to use the Elemental Masks to take over Dr. Neo Cortex's new weapon into evil control and use it to destroy Crash Bandicoot!
Cortex creates Crunch, a Bandicoot whom will attempt to defeat Crash Bandicoot. Can Crash and his crew take out Cortex again and save Crunch?
Wrath Of Cortex mostly takes its features from the old Crash Bandicoot games (Crash Bandicoot 1, Crash Bandicoot 2 & Crash Bandicoot 3), as the controls of the game are fairly the same. Your quest though for this game is slightly more difficult as it is a sequel towards the old Crash games!
In my opinion, I didn't find Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex as good as what the older games were back for the Playstation 1, as most of the features in the game are easily recognisable.
The sound effects used in the game are just recorded themes taken from older Crash Bandicoot games and the music that is played is like a CD being played endlessly as you will notice the music theme will stop for a couple of seconds and then start again.
The graphics of the game though are fairly reasonable though and the game does have an understanding plot! At least it wasn't done in a hurry as what Spyro: Enter The Dragonfly was!
My Personal Game Score: 7/10: On The Ball, Down-But Not Out, OK
My Wish: Slightly more improvement to make the game better quality and easier levels, which are not too complicated!
Final Comments: Overall, if you are after a fairly average Crash Bandicoot game, you may have the option of getting this game for either the Playstation 2, XBox or Nintendo Gamecube. Therefore, if you wish something more decent than this, I would advise you to get a old Playstation 1 Memory Card and Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes back or Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped!

i'd rather stick to crash 2 ...

this game is just an average game. enjoyable at times but at other times it just makes you want to throw your ps2 at the wall. the actual levels ar very good. pretty much the same as the levels from the previous crash games except there are alot more levels played on various vehicles. As for the story... well its limited. There isn't actually a real thought out story. it never actually makes it clear why you are there gathering crystals. but this wouldn't matter too much in my opinion because i don't know about you but i never played crash because it had an enthralling story. i played it simply because it was fun! in this game you play as both crash and coco. the only thing is you dont actually get to choose which one you play as.there is a variety of different bosses and they are all different and have different ways to defeat them. and they are certainly... interesting. but i wouldn't say they were fun. but apart from that it is a very enjoyable game. it has much improved from the 3rd crash game which i couldn't even stand to complete. myu advice is only buy this game if you have already completed the 2nd one ( if not- buy that instead) and you desparately want another crash game to play. or if some shop is flogging it for about a fiver. hope to have helped you out - your pal rach x |
