Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer Platinum (PS)
|
|
|
| Description:
The feisty little adolescent dragon is back in Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer, a sequel that is far superior to the original. Both Spyro fans and those who didn't play the first game will revel its exploratory greatness. Gone are the impossible tasks, unbeatable enemies, and fragmented game flow. This game sports superior controls, more colourful and faster graphics, a tighter story, achievable goals, and plenty of gameplay variety. Don't be fooled by Spyro's cuteness--this isn't a children's-only game. With multiple goals and side quests, a fantastic soundtrack by ex-Police band member Stewart Copeland, and a veneer of understated humour, this is highly addictive. The playfulness of the main character comes through in the exploration of the otherworldly levels using the new moves, including super high jumps, rapid underwater swimming, and extended flight and hovering manoeuvres. Determined explorers are always rewarded--sometimes with an ice hockey match or other sub-game, sometimes with riches enough to learn a new move or uncover a new area. Simply put, Spyro 2 is one of the best action/adventure games for the system. Despite the fact that this game is a sequel, it manages to bring a fresh new look and feel to PlayStation gaming. --Jeff Young

'Gateway to glimmer', in my opinion, is the best spyro game of the playstation 1 selection. It's no doubt one the best adventure games going too. This was my very first ever game when i had my playstation 1 console (years ago now), this in which gave me such a wonderful memory of playing when i was younger. I've always especially enjoyed adventurous games, those that have a long adventure with exciting levels throughout. Another thing i absolutely loved about this was the friendly helpers that help you through the game (Learning to glide, run then jump etc). Unlike the first, which was battling towards more enemy than good. Also, there seemed to be more of an adventure through the levels in this game. They all amuse you for a long time, especially THIS! I don't remember how far i got on this game as it has been ages since i have played it, BUT out of all i would definitely buy 'Gateway to glimmer' before any of the others.
Play it and you will see why!
Kids will definitely not have problem in playing this either as its not too hard. |

Last One To Avalar Is A Gnorc!
(July 24, 2006) |

At the time when I was addicted to Spyro The Dragon (1998/1999), I was interested in continuing the Spyro legacy by finding and playing more Spyro games! In the end I got the 2nd Spyro game for my birthday around the early millennium (maybe September 1999). I was so excited to play it, that I had my first attempts at it without a memory card, and I was just sitting their, playing the game for a good couple of hours!
I finished the game a good old few times, but it was placed in my CD wallet for a good old period of time. Now, going back to the Playstation 1 world, I popped on this classical game and finished it within 3 days. Even though, there's probably more to do on this Spyro game, than Spyro The Dragon! It took me shorter time to complete Spyro 2 than Spyro 1! Roughly, 3 nights, since it's that addicting!
Continuing the story forward from Spyro 1! Spyro and his best friend Sparx were getting bored back in the Dragon Land, as it's the Rainy Season and Spyro forgot what the sun looked like! He then decided to take himself and Sparx for a vacation in a portal called Dragon Shores! Unfortunately, the portal didn't take him to his destination, as he was taken to the land of Avalar! He arrived at Avalar and got told by Elora (A Faun), Hunter (A Cheeky Cheetah) and the Professor (A Mole Professor), that their home world has been taken control by a evil toad called Ripto, and they needed a hero to take out Ripto for good! Spyro knew he couldn't walk back to the rainy worlds so he accepted the request, which brings a new adventure for the young hero!
Throughout this second adventure, Spyro will have to use both old and new moves in order to take out this menacing toad for good! As well as charging and sptting flames on his minions, he'll have to learn to dip in the underwater oceans and climb up some steep hills and ladders! Have you got what it takes to unravel the mysteries of Avalar, and allow Spyro to get his first view at Dragon Shores?
My Personal Gaming Score: 9.6/10: Cool, Sweet, A Big Good Old Blast
My Wish: I'd like to see Sony designing a Playstation 2 game, which has all of the original Spyro The Dragon games in one pack (Spyro 1, Spyro 2, Spyro 3 etc)!
Final Comments: A excellent sequel, and I must say, it's one of the best Spyro games among the Spyro The Dragon career! A must have for the Spyro The Dragon legacy or collection!

Certainly one of the best Spyro's.

Spyro: Gateway to Glimmer or Spyro: Ripto's Rage, is a very good game. It has many friendly characters to talk to, unlike the first game.
From the dusty desert to the deepest depths or the icy plains to the sunny coast, this game has many new places to explore.
The video clips are funny, and you get to view them in a theatre at the end of the game.
Learn new skills such as swimming underwater, climbing and headbashing as you fight your way towards Ripto's Arena. Beat riptocs, pay gems and even ride shark submarines in Spyro's second adventure.
Buy it! |

A true gem of a game!

Spyro 2 is a highly addictive game and lots of fun to play. It's such a shame that insomniac stopped making the spyro games after the PS1 titles. There is alot to enjoy in this game it's quite short but to get 100% takes alot of effort. Once you reach 100% there is a new location you can travel to which is alot of fun. The charcters are very cool and the cutscenes are enjoyable. One of my favourite PS1 titles. |

One of the best titles

I am a huge fan of Spyro, and I own three of the games. Spyro: Gateway to Glimmer, Spyro: Year of the Dragon and Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly. This is a very good title in the series of Spyro. There are plenty of brand new characters who become classics in the Spyro saga, including Hunter, Moneybags, Elora and the Professor. The worlds are mysterious and exciting, and challlenging, but some are a bit too hard. It is humourous, and the extra world at the end is fun. Some levels are a bit dull though. The graphics aren't that good, but graphics don't really matter. |
