Best of Rollercoaster Tycoon
|
|
|
| Description:
Want to build an empire without all the usual bloodshed? Try RollerCoaster Tycoon, which puts you in total control of a theme park, managing every detail from ride development to rescuing lost guests. A simulator in the style of SimCity, this game has a simple enough concept: build a park attractive enough to draw in hoards of tourists and then separate them from their hard-earned money. This is accomplished by researching and building rides, along with amenities, gardens and decorations. Once you have your infrastructure, and the staff to maintain it, it's time to sit back and watch the funds roll in... all in the hope of building an even bigger rollercoaster somewhere else. The big draws in a theme park, the coasters, are expensive and flashy. They lure in thrill-seeking guests prepared to pay top dollar for a wild ride. RollerCoaster Tycoon even allows you to design the coasters yourself, a finicky but ultimately rewarding operation. Despite a clunky interface and the usual simulator drawbacks--such as long waits while you acquire funds for the next ride--RollerCoaster Tycoon is an utter gem of a game. Its soundtrack, a mix of calliope music and ride machinery, is mixed with the sound of guests squealing with delight and terror as the coasters hurl them around. The sound mix is joyfully evocative, and you can almost smell the cotton candy and the popcorn. Best of all, you can play in this theme park for hours without once losing your children or friends, getting sore feet or experiencing motion sickness. --Alyx Dellamonica Amazon.com

Best game ever
(April 13, 2007) |

This is my favourite game of all time. nothing beats this. What makes it so much fun is the graphics, yes i know hard to believe but their utter badness and pixel-like ness is just addicting. Love every single ride and attraction and it's amazing how you run all the financial side ofit as well!
best game ever! |

One of the best strategy games ever!
(January 19, 2005) |

This game is just sooooo COOL! You have all these plots of land basically and then you have to turn them into multi-million theme parks! I love all the rides and I have spent whole days playing this game, seeing you lose track of time! After completing the objectives on your parks you then unlock new-ones! I think the game is superb seeing only Chris Sawyer who programmed & designed it and Simon Foster who did the graphics made the game. Hence, with this infogrames version of the game, it says "complete version" on it but I don't know if it has the Corkscrew/Added Attractions and Loppy Landscapes expansion-packs, I don't have this version of the game. A must-have for all strategy gamers, and in my opinion one of the best computer games ever made!!! |

COASTER BOASTER
(October 19, 2002) |

It should be known by those of you now, that are thinking of purchasing this game, that, by the packaging of both, Rollercoaster Tycoon & Loopy Landscapes add-on pack, they would have you believe that you can build coasters of giant sizes. Thats a laugh !!! I created a coaster that was just a quarter of the size of the ones in the opening credits and it came up with a 'Ultra Extreme' rating ! (kids would not come anywhere near my coaster in the game !!!) On the 'Loopy Landscapes' add-on pack, they say...'30 New Scenarios'? What they forgot to say was...'Sorry, only a few parks are actually open, all, of the others are all locked out !' If you can't complete the stupid missions, then Tough Luck ! you have wasted your hard earned money !The scenarios are pathetic, to say the least ! The tutorial is a lost cause, It doesan't show how to set up a chair lift, or how you can join three stations together, or, how to raise or lower ground !They spent a lot of time on the glitz & glamour opening screens ! (Pity they didn't here to show the gameplayer more!) The game, I'm afraid, can get really boring, annoying and you can easily, become fed up with it if,you find that you cannot complete the so-called silly challenges ! Once a park is built,up and running,it is a pleasure to watch the little people and their funny antics ! The graphics are stunning.I brought the game though to build giant beast of steel, and I haven't been able to do that ! Why did they ever put in ratings for coasters ? What was the point of it ? You should be able to build the coaster to the great heights as in the opening credits !Well, I certainly coulden't ! Nowhere near the height that they showed !!! I own nearly every theme park type game that has come out on the market for the PS1 / PS2 and PC but this one is one game that you cannot 'Ride the Rides' that is a big let down ! After all if you build a daring coaster...YOU should then ride it !!! If you want to build Rollercoasters and ride them ? Simply...Buy the one called 'Rollercoaster World'... |
