The first all-new 2D Mario platformer since Super Mario World has arrived! Boasting incredible 3D graphics to accompany classic 2D gameplay, this fast-paced adventure will have Mario fans cheering as they make their way over fields, under water, through castles, and into the air. Backgrounds are beautifully layered and every character on screen is presented in gorgeous 3D, with Piranha Plants baring their teeth with wild abandon and Goombas looking almost too cute to stomp on. Just below the surface you will find hundreds of hard-as-nails mini-missions that will force you to reconsider your supposed Super Mario supremacy. The real challenge of the game is tracking down its 240 Star Coins, which allow you to open up paths on the eight world maps. Each level hides three of those shiny collectibles: sometimes they're in plain sight but require a special skill in order to be reached. Other times they're cleverly hidden, and sometimes you will need one of the game's special new power-ups to find them. Nostalgic and new in equal doses, New Super Mario Bros. is, quite simply, a gem of a game.

PURE PLATFORMING FUN ON THE MOVE - MARIO STILL RULES IN DS LAND

Although this was released nearly 2 years ago New Super Mario Brothers DS is still hanging around the top 20 and commanding full price in most Games outlets. Almost unique in the land of video games, and certainly unhead of in the handheld world, NSMB has proved a massive hit with adults (looking for retro fun) and their offspring alike. If you like platforming games then this is as good as it gets. Period.
The basic structure and design is as its always been - Mario runs, jumps and squishes baddies - but now its all beautifully presented and the levels are faultlessly designed. The difficulty is set just about right and there are enough hidden levels, bonus sections and secrets to unlock to ensure that you'll be playing this for months. This game actually rewards and encourages replay.
The ace up Mario's little red sleeve though is the mini games - all of which are unlocked from the start - and these can be played solo or with a friend. There are dozens of them - puzzle games, action, strategy and more - many of which are almost as wildly addictive as the main quest.
So the reason for NSMB longevity is simple - it's a terrifc family game and it's great value for money. |

Great game.

This was the first game I got with my DS and I've really enjoyed playing it. I'm not the best games player but this Mario is amazing! The graphics are lovely and it's just generally a really good, fun game to play. There's plenty of levels and various extra things you can unlock too, which makes it even more fun. I also like the way you only need one game card and then someone else with a DS can go against you, playing wirelessly, on the mini games which are surprisingly addictive. Even my dad who thought the idea of me getting Mario was ridiculous was hooked on the card games for hours!
All in all I think it's a brilliant game with hours of fun gameplay and definitely worth getting! |

We bought this before going on a trip to NZ in February to keep our children amused. They love it and are still happily playing it 6 months later. |

I've loved the Super Mario Bros. games ever since I owned Super Mario and Six Golden Coins on my Gameboy Pocket, so I was really excited about buying this game once I bought my Nintendo DS. It really is fantastic! The graphics and gameplay are excellent, though the only downpoint which I've found so far is that there aren't many places to save, so if you run out of lives before you reach certain points, there could be a lot of gaming time going to waste. I'm still working my way through the game and I'm looking forward to completing it but it is certainly a case of so far, so very, very good! |

Ive only recently got a DS lite as a gift and this was the first game i had with it and it is fantastic. I wouldn't call my self a hardcore gamer by any means, i can complete original mario on the super nintendo with my eyes shut from playing when i was younger but this is a whole new level. Im addicted. the graphics are brilliant, the gameplay as good as i remember (if not better) and the mini games are incredibly addictive. when im bored of wasting lives in the main game the mini games are perfect. and the share function is a hell of a good way to waste a week or so! if i had to find a negative point i would say i would like it to use more functions of the ds such as the touch screen and mic but all in all.. i highly recommend. |
