Tomb Raider
|
|
|
| Description:
Anyone who has played Tomb Raider on both the PlayStation and the Dreamcast must have met the news that it was to be released on Game Boy Color with more than a small degree of scepticism. However, though the result loses the 3-D effects and high graphical impact of the original, the game is surprisingly good. The graphics are probably the best to date on a Game Boy, and the cut scenes are very good. The side-scrolling format works well, making the game more accessible for younger gamers. The overall standard of gameplay is fairly high, and while the controls can be difficult to master at first, they get easier with practice. Though some elements of the original are sacrificed, the puzzle elements and variety within the game more than make up for the loss. If you are already a Tomb Raider fan, then this should appeal, providing you accept the limitations of a hand-held console and don't expect an exact replication of the Dreamcast or PlayStation version. For younger gamers who find the originals inaccessible, this is a good place to get acquainted with Lara Croft. Moreover, it's a great way to fill the hours on long journeys. --Lucie Naylor

Well Done
(June 01, 2004) |

When I first heard that Tomb Raider was to be released on Game Boy Color I was a bit suspicious. I thought that it couldn't be that good, and so I decided not to buy it. However, later on after its release I saw it cheap in my local games shop, so I snapped it up as soon as I saw it. I slotted it into my Game Boy and had a go. I had previously played its sequel, Tomb Raider: Curse of the Sword, and found that to be rather enjoyable, but nowhere near as this. Its sooooooo addictive. The gameplay and puzzles, amazing graphics (considering its a GBC game) and true Tomb Raider atmosphere pulled me in and didnt let me go. Its such a great game! On the cover itself it has a rating from a GBC magazine giving it 99%, which before I played it didnt think could be true , but undoubtedly is. This game is now particularly rare, as you may have noticed, so I advise you hurry out now and search and search until you can find this masterpiece. |

Not bad, not better...

The game was much of a promise, more than a fact... The animations are definitelly cool... Reminds me a bit to the classic Prince Of Persia in its concept... But the problem comes when I make the hateful comparative with the Playstation versions... The enemies are kind of dull in their movements, and you are limited to simply shoot them, because you can't make any of the magnificent somersaults that Lara does in PSX to avoid the enemies' bullets... Just aim and keep the fire button pushed until they die... And after spending hours pulling of switches, and more switches, and more switches... Well, you get bored and you only wish to throw the cartrigde against the wall... In addition to that, the prograation is dull and full of bugs... It has happened to me several times that I fall from very high places and I don't die at all, or that I fall in places where I shouldn't... I'd only recommend it to Lara Croft Superfans or to people that preffer a magnificent graphical display more than an effective gameplay. |

Not Lara's best
(December 26, 2000) |

This game has its good points like... uhm yes. Its graphics are good but do not fulfill the requirements of the game. I find it far too easy and completed on the same day I bought it. Lara's moves are very impressive and I think this game is a complete flop. |
