F1 Championship Season 2000 Platinum
|
|
|
| Description:
It is surprising that EA relaunched F1 Championship Season 2000 with the complete 2000 season quite so soon, but eventually every EA Sports title takes to the annual update trail. For statistical die-hards the game is up to date until Spring 2001, which some may perceive as an advantage over Formula One Grand Prix 3. If your machine is powerful enough, all the visual trimmings to make the race the way it's watched at home can be re-enabled. The radio link purports to be the same as heard by real-life drivers. In real life it's doubtful that common sense is spelled out to the driver like, for example, the necessity of staying on the track. It's another feature that would be tried and forgotten other than for the lap time updates--if you don't have the seconds necessary to read the onscreen displays. Then there is the pace lap, EA's homage to televised Formula One racing coverage. Sadly it's a waste of time when you want to get your hands dirty competing. It's not all bad, however, and the best new feature is the driving school where your general skills are tested, including achieving a certain manoeuvre or distance in a given number of seconds, and graded by shades of medal. As a training mode it's quite effective. That training is affected when set to ultra-realistic and the cars slide across the track as if still in arcade mode. The physics have improved, but in the benchmark GP3 the car's visual reaction fits the handling. If you have the original EA F1 2000, it's best waiting for the inevitable 2001 edition for this problem to be addressed rather than settling for this interim update. --Kenneth Henry

Good but no cigarette sponsors
(February 16, 2006) |
|
The game has all of the cars and helmets of the end of the year 2000 but like Sony's Formula One 2000 there's no cigarette sponsors. This game is a lot better though. If you see my latest Formula One 2000 review you'll see the cigarette sponsors what they are and no helmet sponsors and cigarette sponsors on the cars in the team selection. Also like Formula One 2000 I like the bad graphics gone away but I'm glad that it tells you when the drivers were born like Formula One 2000 |

Excellent But It Has Bad Graphics
(July 27, 2004) |

This is an excellent F1 racing game. with good gameplay and everything. But the graphics are rubbish. They are terrible. Do you want to buy the PS1 or PC version? PC version. Rubbish Gameplay. Crap Car Handling. but nice graphics. Why would you like to buy the PS1 version? It's much better. It scores 10/10. for gameplay. but Graphics are 1/10. Buy this. you wont be dissapointed like what happens on the PC version. Forget the PC Version. |

Review
(September 02, 2003) |

This game is great. It has all cars and tracks for the year 2000 season. One minor problem with the game can be some of the graphics. 1) If it rains, there sometimes isn't any spray, but there is when you are in a tunnel. 2) Also, when braking into a sharp corner, sometimes it echoes because it acts as if it is in a tunnel. 3) When you have "tyre wear" on and it rains, the tyres wear out within 5 laps Max. 4) The crash effects are OK, but they could be improved a lot. 5) In the pitlane, you are slower than everybody else in the pit lane. 6) Looking behind you when you are in your car, the car number is huge which is not very realistic. 7) When a car blows up, the smoke is navy blue or brown. 8) When you crash your wheel, it goes black. 9)In the cockpit view, there are some lights, and one of them doesn't light up... why??? 10) You can only have season grid on half of the races, not all of them. Although it sounds quite bad now, it isn't, it is still a great game and I advise you to buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Blast from the Past
(August 14, 2001) |
|
This game is far superior to F1 2001, even on the playstation 2. Graphically it's more than adequate and glitches don't seem to hinder the game anywhere in particular. On hard setting the superb artificial intel' makes for a wide spread of passive and aggressive drivers. Some defend their positions whilst others allow you past. This means playing the console does not get boring or repetitive. For example try overtaking Hakkinen or any other top car on a long straight and check out the varied reactions you get. I've had Hakkinen blatantly shunt me into a barrier on a straight at 200 Mph after I tried to pull a stunt and get past him (this resulted in the eventual loss of a wheel, a near heart attack, a slow rumble back to the pits, falling back to 22nd, you get the picture). The cut & thrust of cornering is accurately done too. Working your way through the crowd is a real test, push too hard and you keep knocking other cars, drive too recessively and you get cut up & overtaken! Out of the many F1 games you can buy on various formats, you'll find the best graphics on the PS2. One thing you won't find anywhere else though is the gut churning tenacity so well captured on this version for the PS1. Also the information feedback for your driving is given vocally from your pit team and visually on screen periodically throughout. It may be a cheapy but it sure is a beauty! |

Two words............GREAT GAME!
(October 08, 2000) |

I've played many F1 racers on the Playstation, and have been largely disapointed with most of them. But I found this one to be probably the best racer I've ever played. The graphics are slick, smooth, and highly detailed. The gameplay and realism really impressed me. The cars handle just like you'd expect in the world of Formula 1. If you buy this game, you won't be disapointed. |
