Driver Platinum
|
|
|
| Description:
Driver Platinum combines Grand Theft Auto-style missions with Colin McRae Rally driving. You are Tanner, an undercover "cop" posing as a getaway driver with the aim of infiltrating and busting open a national crime ring. Passing the driving test to open up the game is the first "challenge", and it can be a challenge. You have a limited time to complete a number of driving manoeuvres in your ridiculously powerful car. But speed is what Driver is all about and these skills do make it easier--the reverse 180 degrees is a fine way to shake off the law as they pursue you all over the streets of New York, Miami, LA or San Francisco. Once into the game, you do various driving jobs where speed and knowing the streets are a definite bonus. Timing is also crucial--arrive too early or with a tail, and you blow the mission, arrive too late and your target will be gone. Outside the storyline, Driver also contains smaller basic driving games, such as Trailblazer and Pursuit modes, allowing you to flex your car's muscle without jeopardising anything, except the safety of your fellow road users. Control of the car does border on the unrealistic side, but this enables you to throw your car around and adds to the addictiveness of the game--driving the car is great fun in itself. The graphics are shockingly good for the PlayStation and the animated clips add to the 70s ambience. Overall, Driver is truly worthy of the accolades it has received and if you don't own it, you probably aren't getting the best out of your PlayStation. --Chris Hall

Law? - What law!?
(November 04, 2001) |

What can I say! If you dont like racing around verious towns in America, writing off police cars and your own - well you must have stopped breathing. The only limitation of this game is that you are stuck in the one car - ie one you damage it, tough! However if you want to be able to change cars and do a little car jacking then go for this games sequel, the aptly named "Driver 2". However if you are after a budget title that'll have you glued to your seat for hours - look no further |

Addictive, Funky and Retro

Driver Platinum is probably one of the best games ever on the PSone. And,because its platinum it means you don't have to fork out on the £30 or so I did 3 years ago. I was hooked from the start. You play an undercover cop who is trying to bring down a crime syndicate over four huge cities;Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. You do jobs such as aideing criminals in bank robberies and collecting weapons to earn the respect of the Boss. My favourite has to be where you have to scare the living daylights out of a 'passenger' by doing donuts and handbrake turns. The music and cut sequences are slick and funky. The only dislike i have about the game is the Save Game feature and Loading which feels like it takes eternity. But if you wanted to be Miami Vice,Starsky and Hutch etc. this cheap game is definietly for you. |

Good game but.....

The only problems I could find with this is the places you start and the Las Vegas car's handling. There should have been random start points to get in the whole city. By the time you have got to the other side, youl car is wrecked and you cannot adventure all around the alleys. The car in Las Vegas is also too heavy to turn and put me off the whole city. But the handling is great and the A.I is top. Reccomended buy |
