Spider-Man - Platinum (PS)

| Description:
Whether you're a fan from the 1960s or not even remotely familiar with the Spider-Man comic, you will get caught in his web. You'll see that despite its few flaws and the limitations of the PlayStation hardware, Spider-Man is the best based-on-a-superhero video game ever released. A crime has been committed and (as often happens) our hero has been framed. As the game progresses, you'll find that all is not as it seems and that many of Spidey's enemies including Venom, Carnage, Mysterio and Rhino are all out to squash the spider's quest to clear his name. Fortunately, Spider-friends like Daredevil, Human Torch and Punisher are here to help Spider-Man and keep the story moving. Like the comics, ol' webhead can climb most walls and ceilings, swing from rooftop to rooftop and, of course, do whatever a spider can. With his constant web slinging and acrobatic hand-to-hand fisticuffs, it's easy to feel that you are Spider-Man. The characters and scenery are nicely recreated here by making great use of the aging PlayStation's graphics prowess. Spidey's ability to climb walls and ceilings does present problems with camera angles from time to time, occasionally making it tough to watch Spidey as he fights his way through some of the game's levels. While it can be frustrating, the overall camera work and graphics of Spider-Man are still amazing with Spider-Man becoming translucent if he gets in the way of the camera. In fact, the gameplay is so good, most seasoned gamers will devour the game in day or two, which makes Spider-Man a woefully short game. Cherish the time you have in these red and blue tights; this game is escapism at its best. --Mark Brooks

This is still the greatest spidey game ever created, even with the free-roaming graphically better games based on the three movies. This game is more closely based on the comics than the movies than any other adaptation and makes the perfect game for any fan of the comics.
The controls are really easy to get to grips with, you'll be swinging from roof-toop to roof-top, beating up bad guys and doing some of that good'ol trademark wallcrawling you hear so much about in no time at all. The storyline is a real mystery/thriller involving spidey being framed, some of his worst enemies teaming up in a vast conspiracy, venom kidnapping mary-jane and a symbiote invasion of new york. If that wasn't good enough you've also got some fantastic level design varying from dizzying roof-tops, a creepy network of sewers infested with lizardmen, a tense search of the daily bugle building while it is swarming with symbiotes and a huge underwater complex. Each level is packed with puzzles, bad guys and secret areas that are fun to find, my particular favourite is stumbling across the green goblin's secret hideout in a crane while being chased by a police helicopter, thankfully he's not in. Finally, there is also a massive amount of humour in this game, something that has been missing from most spiderman adaptations, spidey is always ready with a funny quip or snappy comeback, there is a lot of self referential humour and in jokes and the cutscenes with venom verge on hilarity.
Spiderman: The Game has yet to be beaten on terms of closeness to the source material and pleasing the fans of the comics. So much fun you'll play it over and over. |

Go Spidey!

For those who haven't never played this game before you may think it is a bit easy and short but it wasn't in my opinion. I grew up playing this game and enjoyed it till the end. For a Playstation 1 game the graphics were excellent. The cut scenes had to be the best but their mouths never moved! It was fun swinging and beating up the bad guys. You can also unlock different costumes and I think you can play as Venom and Mary Jane once the game has ended. You can also unlock costumes such as the symbiote costume, stealth Spider-man and many others. It was a little easy at first but it got harder as the game went on. Not by much but the major villains took quite a while to defeat and I had to try more than once so I don't know why people think this game is too easy. There are a lot of charactars in this game - allies and villians - such as the Black Cat, Mary Jane, JJ, Daredevil, Venom, (who actually becomes your ally) Carnage, dock ock, Rhino, Shocker, Scorpion and many others! These may sound like a lot of villains but it was a lot of fun as well! Some bits were a bit hard and others were easy. And Spidey comes out with some witty lines which just made me laugh. 'Spider sense tingling! Venom was the best though but he wasn't very clever. He had to be the funniest charactar in this game and he too came out with some hilarious lines. He even kidnaps Mary Jane! I definitely recommend this game. 4/5. The sequel: Spider-man 2: Enter Electro was also pretty good but not as good as this one. For some reason Spider-man has webbing under his arms! |

I have the new PS2 (slimline) and I hardly ever play my PS1 games, exept this one. Truth be told I still love this game.
It has the best graphics on a PS1 game that I have ever seen.
Fight terrorists, Scorpian and more.
I love this game and it's worth buying for all most any age! |

Many game machines and PC's have had games on this cartoon hero before but this is the best yet the PS2 games are alright but this shows how Sony re-designed the gaming market with thier first machine. Spidey or Peter Parker are here there are a few thing that could have been done differently but on the whole this game is a great game the main people are very crude 3-D due to it's age but looking past that the game give you a spiderman adventrue co-wrote by Stan Lee spidey's cerator there are some cheats that can make the game harder or easier.
The game doesn't really pose any challenge apart from a few levels the cut secnes aren't anything special this might seem I am not a fan of this game which is untrue I am just trying to give you the information needed to make your own mind up.
This game will delight you with it's retro looking images (Blocky) I will say buy this game but don't be fooled it's old and it shows and proofs PS is one of the best around plus this game will work on the PS2 and the new PS3. |
